S4 and S5 water thermo sensor - Whats the difference?
S4 and S5 water thermo sensor - Whats the difference?
Im running an S5 engine on an S4 computer and harness.
The temp gauge reads past hot within minutes of starting the car, until the thermostat starts to open, then it goes down to cold again, almost all the way down. Why does it do this?
Also, the car hesitates when the throttle is more then about 20% open. Almost like a bad tps. Is it TPS, or can it be timing also?
And, with a k&n cone, should the turbo be making an audiable noise? (whine, whistle)
Thanks,
Jakob

s4 ecu and s5 engine won't work correctly together... there are a few obvious differences: electrical OMP (s5 engine) vs. mechanical OMP (s4), hi/low tps settings (s5) vs single tps (s4), and i think some sensors too, so the design for the two ecu controlling the engine are different, and i don't know if it can do any damage to the engine or not (for this i'm more worried about the OMP though, since s4 can't electronically control the s5 OMP)... you will be lucky if the car is running rich, but if it's lean, that's bad for a turbo engine
Hmmm.... i have the omp and injectors blocked off.
Using the S4 tps but i think its bad.
Im thinking the thermo sensor is different too.
Not many other sensors are being used on the S5 engine itself.
Using S4 TII AFM, S4 TII press. sensor, S4 TPS....

I'm doing this too. Except that I'm running the t/b off the S4 and I maintained the S4 injectors and OMP, BAC, etc. as well. I'm having idle problems, but nothing like what you are describing. I'm pretty sure I just need to clean out my T/B and either swap or get a new thermo. I unfortunately was forced to use a Stant thermostat and my car never even comes close to the 1/3 mark, I'd say 1/5 to 1/4 at most. I may also have a vacuum leak somewhere. I've been trying to get everything straightened out. I've tried two different TPS and that didn't change anything, I've got another ECU (another 332) to try, etc.
Which thermostat did you use? Maybe you should try one that opens at a lower temp.
My timing was off and my car would hesitate or detonate. If your car idles well, check the timing. Mine would just barely start until I reindexed the crank angle sensor. This would get it to start but not run real well (sounds kind of like the symptoms you are describing). I lined it up spot on and voila - no more hesitation, etc. etc.
Also look for vacuum leaks, check all your grounds, etc, etc.
