S4/S5 Turbo2 or GTUs?

For starters, would you guys rather own a T2 or GTUs and why? I heard that the GTUs has taller gearing (check Marcus' post in thread here). I do plan to do a 3rotor swap somewhere down the line, but not for I'd say around 30k miles on whatever platform I choose to purchase. After Figuring this out, assuming it's a T2, if hp wasn't an issue, would you go S4 mainly due to the weight savings or is the S5 that much more different that it's worth the extra weight and power?

If the TII was an S4, then I'd go for the GTUs. If it was an S5 TII, then turbo all the way.

Interesting, thanks! I totally agree with your statement personally, but isn't the GTUs just a T2 without the turbos? I guess the rarity also is what attracts some people.

I would say it all depends on your situation. If this is going to be your only mode of transportation and you need it to be reliable then GTUs. But if this is going to be your "fun" car and you want lots of speed then get a TII. But the GTUs is the best IMO, but I am not partial or anything

No, it's a non turbo with a higher rear gear and a LSD, and none of the luxury extras.

It should not be confused with a Turbo at all.

And if he is doing a 20B install down the road, a T2 would be the best bet, less work, and you don't have to swap the drive train.

turbos? mine's only got one

hehe.......also yeah if you can find a GTUs, i've never even seen one in person. if i had a choice it would depend on what i was using it for. the turbo can prove to be alot of power in a turn.....takes some getting used to.

all in all though anyone who knows RX-7s is gonna drool twice as much over a GTUs.

Nope sorry , no kidneys needed here; already have 3 . Thanks for the responses guys.

icemark: thanks alot! that info proved to be very helpful, because I was under the impression that it was exactly the same except withought turbos according to beyond the redline.

Any more insight on the subject? I'm still trying to fisgure out the exact differences, but it seems that the T2 outweighs the GTUs in terms of what it comes with.

Me personally, I think if you are seriously considering doing a 20B swap.... don't get the GTUs. Leave it a GTUs as it is.. not a 20B GTUs. As Icemark said... it would be better to get a TII, that way when you do the 20B swap, you can keep the entire drivetrane (tranny to the rear-end) This will help save some $$$$ when you do the swap.

Very nice Jun. I think I've decided T2, but I'm actually on the fence about still going FC and not FD. I think I might be actually going to the FD guys . Convince me not to. What does the FC got that the FD doesn't, besides the price/

I'll be honest with you, if I had the money I would own an FD. But because im a poor student I don't have that kind of money to spend on a car (or anything in general ). Actually I don't even own an FC anymore I have an 86 benz until I can save up for a decent TurboII and buy it outright (no loans or borrowing money from people)! Im sure the FD would be more reliable, seeing that it's a lot newer. But for the price of an FD in good shape, you could have one hell of a nice FC reliable and fast as hell (well not 20B fast but rebuild motor big *** turbo fast )!

Talking GTUs+TURBO II+GSL SE- Just need a FD to complete my collection!!!

Yea I can't decide!!
Both the GTUs and the TURBO II ROCK!!
But honestly The turbo II is faster...
Honestly the GTUs does feel better while Turning..
Both cars are basicaly the same except for the ENGINE.

..If i don't get 3500 CASH for my GTUs im keeping it and swaping the rear gears onto the TURBO II to make it 4.30 bias to 4.10 ratio.Just better for Autocross because the gears are smaller but it does suck when your on long freeway trips.rpm's are kinda high in overdrive(5th gear)but should help during a drag race or any sporty driving..Just a little tiresome on long trips, unless you don't mind the high reving..

FD<---- Wish I could Afford one!!! Yea If i could afford a FD i would Keep both my GTUs TURBO II !! oh !! and also i have a 84 GSL SE..=)

I AM A COLLECTOR OF RX7's =)

Well, looks like my sale has been postponed. Looks like I'm going FC after all due to popular demand! Turbo2 is the way to go, but now I was wondering if the S5 really is "that much better" than the S4. I've heard the S4 engine is easier to tune and modify. Is that true? Give me all the juicy info guys!
