S4 S5 turbo question

I currenty have a S4 hybrid turbo. It's got a To4b comp housing and a larger wheel, but with the stock S4 exhuast wheel and housing.

I am wondering if I can remove that S4 exhuast housing and use a S5 housing and manifold. Anybody forsee any problems with this?

Cheers
Graham

Your tubine wheel won't match the S5 turbine housing and if the wheels are interchangeable then you've got rebalanciing issues.

That's just my take on it. The A/Rs are different, that's why I said that.

If you're handy putting turbos together and have an S5 to pick from it shouldn't be a problem. I guess I would think you'd want to build on the S5 if it was good though but maybe it's "six of one and half a dozen of the other".

So what your saying is that the S4 exhuast wheel is not compatable with the S5 housing. Perhaps I will have dry fir it to see if it will work. I find it hard to believe the wheels are that different.

The only difference between S4 and S5 turbos is the exhaust housing. The core, both wheels and the compressor cover are identical between models. It should swap over easily, giving you a better manifold design and bigger wastegate.

Excellent

Just what I needed to hear. The S5 manifold design does appear to be alot better. Plus the S5 exhuast housing does not have that brutal twin scroll B.S. In addition my S4 has some pretty significant cracks and from what I've seen the S5's are less prone to this.

Ok simple question about this, do you need the S5 wastegate actuator aswell? or could you make the S4 one work easily enough?

I think either would work. With the hybrid turbo there is some modifications that need to be made to the rod however.

Don't forget to PORT the s5 wastegate also. The s5 has a better wastegate system, but with hybrids you still need to really port the hell out of it,,, especially if the turbine wheel was not clipped.

Yup I'm on it. I ported the **** out of the last one and will do the same on the S5.
