S4/S5 TPS help

My S5 NA check engine light comes on when the throttle is released (and goes off when you give the car gas) and the dealer claims the TPS needs to be replaced. I'm wary to do so because a new TPS is $350+ and I have no idle issues, no jerking in slow traffic - everything runs and it drives perfectly.

I have a S4 TPS and though I haven't yet looked to see if it fits, from what I've read in the archives here, I gather that a S4 TPS will not be compatible with a S5 car?

I'd just drive with with an intermittent check engine light for a while, but the car won't pass emissions with a check engine light on.

Anybody have suggestions or advice?

Thanks.

the S4 wont work, the S5 has the extra full range plunger for the Oil Metering Pump operation, i have a S5 TPS if you need to buy one, you can try it and make sure it works fine if you'd like.

First of all just take a good look at the wiring & plug in the area of the TPS...It might be something simple, like corroded pins...

If you don't notice anything visually, check the TPS per the FSM...

Will anything else throw the code besides the TPS itself? Wouldn't think so, but I don't know the S5's that well...

Being the car is an S5, pull the error code(s) and see what the ecu has detected.

I checked the codes and it's throwing a 12 and 18, so both full and narrow TPS.

Now, this is probably an incredibly stupid question, so forgive me but: How do I get the TPS' bottom holding screw out? I've got the top two bolts undone, but there's a screw underneath with only 2" space to work with.

Well.........does the TPS being bad make your car idle surge between 750 - 1100 rpms, and when it hit 1100, sputters back down to 750? I also have slight bucking at lower speeds......I always thought that was the TPS, but maybe it could be something else.......
