S4/S5 TII trans. interchange

Hi, I have a S4 TII trans and need to replace the Shifter "Control Case", part number 17-470 in the diagram, and the shifter lever end, part number 17-461A. But I have found out that the S4 parts arent available anymore, so does anybody know if the parts from an S5 TII trans will interchange? any help available will be appreciated.

to fix any free play usually you want to replace 17-461A and the 3 pieces of 17-481S.

the control case is broken between the front and rear mounting bolts, and it must have been dropped at some point because one of the bolt holes on the top is collapsed.

s5 box is interchangable as long as u get the cross member with it. s5 is said to be stonger and has a longer 5th gear

^ That would be if you swap the whole tail housing.

I have one of each transmission, and I want to say they're the same, but I also know the S5 shifter assembly is a little different. Whether that includes the lever end and control case is hard to say. Externally they appear the same, and the way the control case bolts onto the tail housing appears the same. What's the cost on these parts anyhow? You may be better of getting a used transmission and just swapping the tail housings.

Here's some pics of what I'm dealing with, the control case for a S5 is about $75 and the shifter block is $30 from Mazda, I only paid $80 for the trans and was planning on a full rebuild so I am just trying to see if they would work so I can figure them into the cost. Someone suggested just welding it back together and putting a heli-coil into the collapsed hole, but I think it is too far gone, any suggestions?

I have personally swapped those pieces between S4 and S5 T-II transmissions with no consequence, same with shifters. You should be fine.

*NOTE: Do keep in mind, the transmissions/cars I'm basing this off of were both swapped, so I'm really basing it on what the previous owners told me they put into the cars, I just know the physical exchange happened, but I'm not positive of the transmission serie.
