s4 and s5 TII trans. clarification and custom driveshaft
Car:1986 GXL
TII swap is what I'm doing..just were on the same page.
Ok...so the only difference between the s4 and s5 TII tranny's are that, the ribbing is different on the case (not important), and the mouting bracket bolt holes are different correct. I searched, and read that the s4 has 2 bolts that attatch the brace/member to the transmission, one on each side, and the s5, has 4, with 2 being on each side. My question is will it still work though? Will 1 of the 2 bolt holes on the s5 attach to my series 4 n/a trans bracket? I'm doing the TII transplant by the way. Also, the 5th gear and reverse gear switch is different, this shouldnt matter should it? Just have to maybe run a bit more wire to them, etc. And, since I didnt see at discussion on it, the s5 tii trans will line up to a s4 tii engine no problem?
Also, I'm buying a custom drive shaft for a s4 TII conversion. If the trans I get is a s5 for (hes not sure) then can i still use that drive shaft to mate the s5 TII tranny to my n/a GXL diff? If its s4 I assume it should work no problem...
Thanks.

you need to use the same year crossmember as the tranny.
so if you use a 89-91 turbo tranny. you need the 89-91 turbo tranny crossmemeber. and 86-88 needs the 86-88.
your N/A one won't work.
once the custom driveshaft is made it should fit to either the s4 or s5 turbo tranny.
the only concern is if your car is auto now. then it'll be a pain to bolt in a 5sp. even with the right mount.

Again, this is a 1986 GXL n/a 5spd, going TII via, s4 TII engine, s5 TII tranny, custiom driveshaft that was used for a s4 TII tranny to s4 n/a diff TII swap(told shaft will work with s5 tranny to s4 diff though), microtech lt-8.
Ok..I got the crossmember stuff squared away. If I get a s5 TII tranny, I need the s5 TII crossmember. S4 or S5 TII tranny will bolt up to a s4 TII engine.
Un-answered questions are, if I use a s5 TII tranny, will the s4 TII flywheel, clutch, work. Also will my n/a 5spd hydrualics work (slave cyl.)? Last question is about the reverse gear and 5th gear switch, I read there different on the diff. series trannys. Is that just a matter of wires? I'm going to be running a Microtech LT-8, does that need the 5th gear switch, exactly what does that do? And if the reverse gear swtich is different, I assume thats just going to be a matter of extending wires maybe. Any help appreciated.
