S4 or S5 TII. Tell Me What To Buy!

I like the look of the S5 for sure, but a lot of folks prefer the S4 (the mech. OMP is a nice feature). Hands down, money isn't an option, which should I look to buy? I did a Search for differences and all, I just want owner preference. If you have/had both, please tell me likes/dislikes about both!!!!! Thanx in advance!!

For me, just having a mechanical vs. elect. OMP makes all the difference. Power output difference is neglegable and easily compensated for. Body style is similar and can be changed to preference. So why bother taking the risk?

p.s. where's my F&F DVD?

This isn't really S4 or S5...Depending on your size, leather seats aren't that good for driving sometimes. I'm a damned featherweight and I slide around on hard cornering. S turns means I'm bouncing all over the place.

If the OMP is of concern, premix lightly. That way, if the OMP does fail, you don't suffer catastrophic engine failure getting home. Another thing to think of is if you get a S5, you could always make the first mod you do replacing the OMP and lines with new parts. While your doing that, you can have your injectors cleaned, new fuel filter, plugs, and wires.

Concerned about the extra weight? If you want to ditch the PS, don't just unplug it. Spend the 400 some dollars to convert to a manual rack and toss all the PS equipment. Remove all of the factory sound deading material and attach dynomat underneat your carpeting.

Honestly, both have their ups and downs. Personally, i'd buy whichever has lower miles, and hasn't been sitting for an extended period of time. Don't forget to check for rust. I'll type some more pointers later. I need a break .

I am a weight junkie, so that really isn't a problem. I pull anything/everything that I don't feel that I need. Leather is groos, but I am 6'1" ans 220 so no biggie about slidin around. The OMP is an issue, but I plan on reliability mods first anyway (vac lines, new clutch, rebuilt injectors, new fuel pump, etc). Keep the info commin guys!!

Oh one thing, is the zenki or kouki turbo/wastegate better?

The S5's look much better, hands down. Especially the front lip. Plus the body-colored trim makes a huge difference as well.

Other than that, I'd go with the S4's. More to choose from, cheaper, almost as fast.

Plus the appearance can be fixed with aftermarket, paint etc.

Yeah, the front clip is MUCH nicer on the S5 IMO, but since I want black, the molding really isn't an issue, and if I get a S4, the first thing will be S5 taillights for sure. Why is the kouki tubo better vosko?

the S4 turbo is LAGGY compared to a S5. i drove my friends car with basically same mods as mine. you see boost guage go up to 12psi then a second later wham acceleration. on my car as soon as i'm in boost i'm moving! i just dislike S4's if you can get a S5 do it and you will be happier. S5 engine is ALMOST like a 13B-REW. not as big ports but everything is similar

Just my two cents, but with the difference in price between the two, you could get an S4 and a nice turbo upgrade (ported wastegate, etc.) and a few other goodies.

i've poured about 1000 extra in canadian dollars into my car by doing every single maintenace item there is. including tires... got a used set with 90% treads left. toyo proxies Fz4, not the greatest but it fit my budget.

and i only paid 6500 canadian for my s5 TII... you have to jump on them quick... i was the first person to call, see and offer, and last to give offer, see and touch.

hmm I would have liked to get a s5, but the s4 I bought was in awesome condition. Only had 50k original miles, and was kept in badass shape all the time. I think I'd still rather have a s4 if I had the choice but with a s5 turbo/mannifold

Well, it sounds like it all comes down to condition. If I find a S4 w/ a rebuilt engine for $4k I'll get it. If I find a S5 w/ a blown engine for $2k, I won't get it. Can a S5 turbo/manifold bolt right onto a S4?

Cool. My goal is a lightly modded TII, w/ a nice suspension that can be reliable enough to drive in college, then I can mod it after I graduate and have a "real job".

Hands down the S5 looks way better. But there are more S4's so parts would be easier to come by. I don't know, I have an S5, and I don't really care for the S4 as much, so the OMP to me is no biggie. Whatever your preference is I guess.

IT DOESN'T MATTER! RX-7 is an RX-7 that's what i always say, but the least problem, more horsepower, and best looking is yes, the series 5. But the lag you guys say I couldn't really tell while test driving this 88 10th anni. but I think i'm in love!

as you guys know i don't have an rx-7 but a 240sx, but today was the first time i actually drove an RX-7 and all i can say is wow.

Oh god, S5 ALL THE WAY!!!!!!
SO much nicer interior, nicer ground fx, and nicer power.
Not even a choice in my mind. Even after having an S5 N/A, I would never buy an S4 turbo, instead of an S5.

Hmmm, if you happen to find two and you don't want one of them. Let me know. I am not going to get that 1st gen and have gone back to my original goal of getting an FC. There is just nothing around here and it is really pissin me off... How broken is your N/A? Will you sell it to me for cheap so I can fix it or did you already get rid of it?
