S4 to S5 TII BLOCK difference

How do i identify S4 TII from S5 TII block ?

I mean plain block, no injectors, no manifolds, no flywheel, just bare block.....

I think my 13BT might be S5 but i need to know what to look for to be sure.....i had vibration problems with S4 counterweight and lightened flywheel.....i don`t have access to S5 counterweight to try it but i will try to get my hands on one.....

I don`t know history of my turbo engine and i would like to find out if its S4 or S5.....

what to look for?

I think you can cross reference the engine number to a vin number or just use the engine number to determine year.

Is the OMP Mechanical or Electric? (if it has one on?)

I know the Plates are a bit beefer on the S5 (more metal around plug side bolts) but without seeing it you would have to compare the two engines

IIRC, Mazda moved the location of the knock sensor from the rear iron to the center. Check the FSM and look for the hole for the sensor.

They did move it but it's still threaded in the other location as well I believe (my s5 has two knock sensors in it - one in the middle one in the back)

Why do you want to know? I only ask because I have an S4 block in the garage, but it's all crated up. I could pull it out and take pictures, but it would be a giant pain. If it's just an academic issue, I don't want to do it. If it's going to help you get your car running then I might try (not even sure if I can get it out of the crate by myself). I think that if you find the number the factory service manual or some such will be the best way to go. Even then you can't be sure exactly what's in the motor....
