s4 or s5 T2 for a swap?

I'm planning on dropping a T2 in my vert soon. I was just curious which motor would be more advantageous? I've heard that the S4 has better reliabilty than the S5. But is there a big power difference down the line. I only want an intake, exhaust, and maybe an upgraded IC for mods. I'd like 200-225@ the wheels. Also would either of these be ok to mate to my N/A driveline?
Thanks.

225rwhp can be accomplished through exhaust alone. an NA driveline will work, *BUT* you might want a stronger transmission for the added torque.

I have a S5 engine in my 87TII.

I think the pros of the newer engine outweight the cons.
If you can get a S5 engine, I'd go for it...

after researching this subject, i would say for the ease of the swap get the TII engine that matches the series of yer car.

if you are gonna use a standalone EMS then get whatever.

good luck, have fun

Other than the cheaper price and lower compression rotors (high boost baby!!!), is there any advantage at all to the S4 engine?

Thanks guys. I just wasnt sure. my only T2 was an 87, I've got a couple fo friends with S5 T2's and they popped their motors in a year or so and had them replaced with S4 T2's, and have ran fine since.
So would any S5 hook up ok to the ECU, or do I need a 91 specifically?
lets see:
T2 motor
ECU & harness
Tranny
Driveshaft
rear end
hood
Anything else?

any S5 TII ECU will plug directly up to your under-dash S5 NA wiring harness.

S5 rotors are lighter and stock for stock put out a tad bit more HP than the S4

also need
TII pressure sensor(pass. shock tower)
knock control box
brake booster line

S5 would be the better of the two but if your going the cheap route then you better stick with an S4

s4 is so much cheaper and you can make up for the hp loss with mods. I'd go s4. Are you going to have issiac rebuild it because if he ports it and you put exhaust and ic you're going to have more than 225. You'll need a fuel cut defender because you'll hit fuel cut off. Then you might as well through in a boost controller.........and while your at it upgrade the fuel system.....and well get a bigger turbo....and...........haha

ok, unless you use every single external accessory, sensor, and electrical connection from an S5 on your S4 engine you will have a hard time.

point is:
an S4 TII ECU will NOT plug into the under-dash S5 NA wiring harness. An S5 TII ECU will.

so, unless you plan on using a haltec or something(obviously not the cheap way) then i would suggest getting an S5 engine and stuff. you only talkin a couple hundred more for an S5 engine anyways.

tryin to keep it objective

good luck, have fun

hmmm. S5 sounds like a winner! They only run on average $75-200 more from what Ive seen.
Thanks for the help!
Yeah I plan on letting Isaac do it for me. I guess I'll have him a nice big port job on there as well. I really dont want to run high psi #'s. So dp, 3" exhaust <dual tip>, and maybe a different ic. I just want a reliable 225@the wheels. Kinda want a lightly modded savanna if you will
BTW, these 17"s have GOT to go...too bling bling for me...PCW <panther> EMR202...came with car

well if you crank the boost up and have a ported engine with dp, and exhaust you should be at like 250 im guessing you'll be at 225 for sure. I sent you a pm about those rims.
