OR S4 and S5 pulley differences????????

swapped a T2 S5 motor into my S4 and it seems the timing is way off. if i set it to factory, which would be S5, it stumbles through the RPM until i'm around 3700. so are the timing marks different between pulleys and if so, does anyone know how to time a S4 motor using S5 pulleys? cant find turbo S4 pulleys anywhere

The pulleys don't differ between series at all, but each pulley/hub set is matched for individual engines. If you mix and match, you run the risk of the timing marks being off to some extent.

Yes, the marks are different between S4 and S5. Mazda moved the location of the trailing plugs... But I believe the leading mark is the same on both.

I would guess that you CAS is not inserted correctly. Very common peoblem on rebuilds. Try reinstalling the CAS.

well my buddy's S4 T2 pulley has marks that are totally different then my S5, probably a tooth or 2 of a turn. would Mazda have really made it THAT different? i'm not questioning what your saying, more like what i'm seeing.

From what I've seen, it should be the same on TIIs. I do know that S5 NAs have different trailing plug locations from S4 NAs, but I haven't heard of the same being true for S4 TIIs vs. S5 TIIs. Maybe wozzoom is right about it on TIIs too. At any rate, don't mix and match pulleys and hubs, like I said already. Pulleys and hubs were made as a set, so when you mix them up the marks are no longer accurate. It doesn't matter if they're both from cars of the same series or not.
