S4 to S5 Intake Swap

i know i know this topis has probably been covered a bunch of times. and i have searched. maybe i just suck at searching but i couldn't find anything on it. i would love is someone could give me a write up on how to do this and the out come. this seems like a good swap for me. i have a good 80,000 mile motor so i won't be getting a rebuild on it anytime soon which means i won't be getting it ported so the s5 intake would be a nice addition. isn't it something like 15 or so more horsepower? that would sure be nice esspecially on the top end. i know i will have to figure a way to open tehm. which will probably end up being a small compresor and an rpm switch just like my 6pi. i just need to know what it will take to get it running with the vdi system. thanks guys i would really like somehelp with this. i'm trying to squeeze the most i can out of my n/a. thanks again.

Please search.. this has only been covered about 100 times... heck I think there are even several threads on it in the 2nd gen archive.

And why you thought you needed to start two threads on this is beyond me... so I merged them

Ah man... You must not have searched because this comes up at least once a month Hell it is covered in my what I have been doing thread even... as well as others.

For the 100th time...

If you have a S4 non turbo engine, and wish to add the VDI intake, use the S4 lower intake port matched to the S5 VDI/upper intake and dynamic chamber. Yes it will work, however it is not a pure bolt in thing and will require modification of the S5 VDI section, as well as S5 fuel rails or modifed S4 main rail and S5 upper rail.

thanks. i know i will have to modify the vdi system i already have the rpm switch and elec. pump so i have that under control i just wasn't sure if i was going to have to use the s5 lower or if i could stay witht he s4 thanks. I'm not trying to upset you or **** you off jsut looking for info it's not a big deal. the search isn't too good. it's very broad i tried typing it in a variety of different ways getting so many odd ball posts that i gave up and posted. thanks for the info though.

Well, (as mentioned in the What I have been doing- gone back to N/A thread) I used a S4 lower, and S5 mid/upper and had them extrude honed to each other... this got me close to 20 additional Hp at top end by all estimates and a pretty consistent 5-10 HP across the mid range.

But even just port matching a S4 lower to a S5 upper, will net the average S4 owner 10 HP at the upper end.

That 10 HP is better than even the best cat back and cone air filter combo would give you.

The work to the VDI intake includes re-drilling the rear intake mounting bolt on the VDI section:

and then dremeling (or other work) so that the intake can be bolt together:

and of course the main fuel rail... it needs to be replaced with a S5 one, or the PD needs to be swapped to the other end, otherwise it hits:

Then you test fit:

Of course the vac system will also need to be modified... you'll end up with this:

Yellow are the air bleeds for both the oil injectors and the fuel injectors, DK green is fuel, dk blue is pressure.

eventually you will end up with something simular to this:

Now remember it has been shown now a couple of times, that using a S5 upper and lower on a S4 motor will typically result in lower top end HP... that is why you want to do the mixed manifold design.

And also, try using a better subject line. Instead of "intakes", try "S4 to S5 Intake Swap". I will edit the thread.

Don't tell me the search sucks because I've been using it since the late '90s and always find what I want. Make sure to select to only search within the subforum you are looking at, and try a few variations of search terms.

Well it does suck that it wont let us search two character words...

Anyway, time to introduce the Wayback Machine! http://web.archive.org/web/201003251...is/intake.html

And I attached the images I'd saved off the website a while ago..
