you need a specific flywheel for each engine, they are ALL different due to diameter(turbo or non turbo) and weight (each rotor set is balanced to the flywheel and front counterweight).

so if you have an S4 non turbo for example, you can't just throw an S5 non turbo flywheel onto it without it having balance issues.

Is your engine n/a or TII? there is that difference as well. Also look in the classified section.

I'll have an s4 flywheel for sale in a couple days if you're interested. I'm not looking for trades though. Hit up the for sale threads or make your own thread in the "Want to Buy" newly created sub-forum.

I have an S5 NA Auto. block and an 87 TII trans. does anybody predict any problems with using a Racing Beat aluminum flywheel? and should I match the flywheel to the S5 motor or S4 Trans?

Match flywheel to the transmission, counterweight to the engine.

You will buy the flywheel for a S5 TII. The counterweight is sperate on the aftermarket flywheel but comes with it. Ordering the flywheel kit for the 89-95 Turbo ensures you get the correct counterweight. In actuality it is just a counterweight from an auto car so you already have the counterweight you need so you'll end up with an extra one.

so the flywheels themselves are the same, and the only difference in the kits is the counter weights? O.K. thats good to know

The flywheels themselves are not series specific, only drivetrain specific. So the flywheel themselves are different between turbo and non-turbo, but are the same flywheel for series 4 and series 5. However, Racing Beat includes a series specific counter-weight with their flywheels. Many other brands do not include it.

Mazdatrix includes it as well, as does Rotary Perfomance. Mazdatrix also lets you buy the pieces by themselves so you can save alittle money if you already have a counterweight.

ACT, Fidanza, and a few other flywheel manufacturers do not include the counterweight, although they do sell them separately as new units.

Anybody have any experience with the ACT "Prolite" flywheel? It is apparently only about 10Lbs., does it need a special counter weight or just the standard Auto. counter weight? My main concern is durability with something that light.

This would be going into a track day FB, so my main concern would be performance, so would it be worth it to buy a 10 lb flywheel which is cheaper but can only be resurfaced a limited number of times, or would it be better to sacrifice 2 LB and buy a more expensive RB flywheel that can be machined as many times as you want you only have to buy the steel insert?

The standard auto counterweight works for the ACT Prolite flywheel.

I think only you can determine which flywheel is right for you. How often do you plan on resurfacing that flywheel?

Be careful with the flywheel weights, you need to find out if they include the weight of the counterweight or not. Fyi, the prolite does NOT include the counterweight weight.
