I was wondering what changes were made to the front (body) of the cars. Was it just the bumper or did the fenders and hood change as well.

I like the look of the S5 bumper a lot better and was wondering if it would bolt right on. without f-ing up the lines

 

I'm pretty sure that the front bumber clips right on, from an S5 to an S4, but i could be wrong. Where u find them on the internet, it says they bolt right on. I think the side skirts were changed. But the hoods are the same

 

I think the rubber trim is different too.

 

Ah, I forgot about the trim your right it is quite different.

I like the S5 trim a lot better to, much smoother

 

the trim was made different. series 4 is black (except for the AE) and series 5 was shaped differently and painted the color of the car. I think that you can just switch trim on the fenders and doors and body, but from what I've heard, its a part of the front and back bumpers, since they aren't metal. if you're planning on changing you will need to get the front and back bumper, as well as the trim peices for fenders, door, and on the quarter panel area. I'm not too sure on this however. wait for someone to confirm/correct me before taking action.

 

the s5 bumper will bolt up to the s4 fenders fine...but the molding on the s5 bumper doesnt match, and i think it might even be at a different height than the s4 fenders.

The front crush pads and the front support beam (under the bumper cover) need to be replaced as well with the series 5 versions if converting the bumper cover.

I guess my remaining questions are these:

the way the trim is, can you take off the series 4 and put the series 5 in its place? (at least for the door and quarter panel.)

RX-7 GT said that it might be at a different height on the fenders. does this mean that if the fenders were to be changed, that it would match up to where the trim is on the door and quarter panels? or would it still be off there as well?

 

No, the fenders, doors, and trim locations are all the same height/ and location.

It is my understanding that you have to slightly enlarge a hole in each side of the S4 front fenders to fit the S5 bumper skin on, but other than that it should be bolt up and match fine. The trim should be a perfect replacement if you like that style.

The only fender changes the entire FC production were the series 5 T2 front fenders were slightly different than any other FC as they had provisions for the factory side skirts.
