S4 NA not starting. no crank, just spins, searched to no avail

Done searches on all the major FC forums and haven't found an answer that satisfies my needs. I know how to unflood a flooded engine, seems like I have another problem?

Background: 86 GXL with a mild streetport S4 NA engine.

It's the wife's daily driver, and she parked it after a trip to the grocery store and it just spun the next morning. She tried the fuse de-flood to no avail. I pulled the plugs, replaced them with some spares, pulled the CAS, and cranked over the engine for 12 seconds or so. Hooked everything back up again and the engine cranked once and then just spun. Timing wasn't changed, there's fuel pressure, there's spark, there's compression (at least to some degree...tested it with a finger...apex seals don't self destruct in the middle of the night while the engine is off, although I haven't hooked up a gauge yet) so I don't understand what's stopping the vehicle from starting. I haven't tried a push start with it yet because I doubt it would work since the starter is known good. Ideas on where to go from here would be greatly appreciated.

how flooded was it? are you positive the engine was flooded? did you test the afm and make sure the connector was tight?

Disconnected AFM would still allow a start. THe computer doesn't look for the AFM to start.

You need to check compression.

Also, check for a vacuum leak. Check to see if a line came off somewhere.

When you say you "pulled the CAS", Why did you do this? Did you pull it out of the front cover?

If so, did you reset the timing?

Also, verify you have spark and fuel at the injectors. If you have a spare CAS, just hook it up where the one in the car connects. Take a lead off of the spark plugs and hook a spare spark plug up to it. Turn the key to ON. Spin the gear on the bottom of the spare CAS. THe sparkplug should fire if it is held next to a ground. You should also be able to hear the injectors clicking. THis may be easier to hear without the sparkplug attached.

This will verify that you have spark, and that your injectors are firing.

To check to see if you have fuel, jumper the two wires in teh YELLOW plug near the AFM. There are only two wires in this plug. With the key to ON, you should hear fuel running through the fuel lines. If you can't hear that, disconnect the fuel feed line and see if gas comes out (It should FLY out!!!) BE CAREFULL!

I have fuel and spark, injectors are firing. Going to try a push start tonight maybe, then check compression tomorrow

Gave her the old push-start and it fired right up. Don't know why I didn't do this before, for some reason I didn't think it would work. Now I know
