S4 N/a Uim Removal

Hey guys, I'm in the process of changing out my Pulsation damper, and I can't seem to get the UIM off. I've unbolted and unplugged all the hoses and lines going to it, as well as taken off the attached brackets holding it on, and the 4 nuts and long bolt holding it on the passengers side.

can anyone lend me a hand as to how I can get it off? I've tried about everything and it wont even budge.

if i remember correctly.. there is one bolt that is hidden on the driver side, you have to take off a bracket held on by 2 10mm bolts.. then the 12mm bolt is under it

There's the 5 bolts on the pass side going to the LIM, and there are 3 holding it to the bracket/vac rack. One on the front of the UIM, 2 on the drivers side (behind some other thing below the BAC, forgot the name.)

I think the bolt in the front "sideways7" is talking about is behind the altanator.

not sure the size is it a really small vac line.

Yeah, its kinda behind the alt. You need wither a wrench or a socket with a swivel head adapter on it.

hmm, I had all the nuts on the passengers side off and the big stud, and whenever i'd try to shake it to see if it was loose, itd shake the whole motor, like it was still tight, like my bolt removing did nothing. do you guys think thats because the gasket is sealed on there from 19 years of age? should I try prying it off?

Make sure that you have all the bolts out that go along with the vac rack. When you shake the UIM, where is it sticking? I mean, can you see that it is not still attached to the vac rack? Or can you see that where your UIM/LIM gasket is, it is lifting on only 2 ports? Try to really determine where it is sticking.
I had a hell of a time getting mine off. Search UIM removal and Needa13b, you might find a few threads I started. Some have pictures.
It turned out that the mating surfaces of just 1 bolt, back by the wiper motor was stuck. A whack or 2 with a rubber mallet on the driver's side of the UIM got it all loose.
Once it broke loose, I seriously sat and stared for a while. I had spent so much time thinking it was something terrible and I'd never get it off, and then in one swing of the mallet, it gave way, and all problems were gone. Well, all related problems were gone.

i did this the other day.

there is a ton of bolts.
when you think you've got them all, look for more, you'll find more.

and smack it with your palm or a rubber mallet to break the gasket surface.

Yeah, because It's technically not HARD just unbolting the bolts and taking out the hoses I see..maybe I'm just missing some bolts like you guys have said. as to the shaking question, when i try and shake the manifold, its STUCK on there, it feels just as bad as it did before i unbolted anything...

Edit: sorry if that sounded sarcastic, I just re read it. wasn't meant to be.

I found and read your thread...Tomorrow i'll take another whack at it and see whats up. it's probabily just stuck on, because all those bolts your showing i took off.

Edit: Also, Anyone know the size of that vacuum line on the secondary fuel rail that hooks to the fuel pressure regulator?

Count your bolts. The number you should have when it's ready to come out was posted. Take some pictures and we might be able to see the one you're missing

You have the 4 nuts & 1 long bolt holding it to the LIM. There is 2 bolts holding it on to the bracket where the accel cable is attached. Last bolt is behind the alt. All of these should be able to be taken off with a 12mm wrench or socket. If after all your lines, elec. connectors & nuts & bolts are removed & it still does not want to budge, give it a tap with a rubber mallet & that should do it. Make sure & have replacement gaskets.

alright, I've got the PD fixed and everything back together (managed to do it without taking off manifold.)

question is, I only remember taking out one LONG bolt, and thats the one that goes into the bottom of the intake manifold, near the 4 nuts.

Strangely, I have this remaining, and I cant for the life of me find ANY mising bolt holes.

Its another long bolt with a 10 on the head. can anyone point me in the right direction?

I've also got another 6 (or 9, cant tell) short little one, looks like it went into some of the brackets.

The only bolts that I remember with some sort of length on them are the ones for the fuel rail. Check by the alt. & see if that shorter bolt is not for the bracket for the UIM.

Yeah the long one goes to the fuel rail. It just threw me off because one bolt on it is short and the other one on it is long.

Anyway though, I got the PD installed, and the damn primary fuel rail STILL leaks gas...anyone have any idea whats causing it? Suggestions and opinions are appreciated.

Did you happen to check the fuel lines themselves? Either that, or the 'crush' washers didn't seal properly.

Oh, and the Injector's O-Rings could be causing the leak, too.

that small bolt may hold on the aft portion of the rats nest to the upper intake manifold

Yeah, there's a small bolt on the passenger side of the UIM, facing the firewall. It's small, and holds two metal/rubber vacuum lines to a mount. It'll **** you off if you can't find it.
