S4 engine question (disregard the other thread)

The way I understand it the 5th and 6th ports open the way and the time they do based on back pressure. I am pretty sure the exaust I am putting on is straight 3 inch all the way, which means low back pressure. Should I wire my 5/6 open all the time?

If you wire your 5/6 open all the time then your low rpms are going to suck ***. But if your car is a na to turbo converison then i wouldn't worry about them. But now if its a NA with 3 inch exhaust all the way then, its your call since 3 inches is alittle to big. I would of stuck with the 2.5 all the way back.

Well would it help once I got the engine spun up pretty high? or would the trade off not be worth it. I don't know if there will be enough back pressure to work with the normal 5/6 set up. And I didnt choose this, This is a used exaust that I am getting for $100

No a 3in exhaust is to large for your basic N/A you will be losing HP. Stick with 2.5 to 2 cat back, yes the 6pt open from the backpressure from the cat. There are alternative methods if you do not keep this system with your exhaust choice, found in the archives by silverrotor as well found on http://www.fc3s.org/how_tos/electrical/6_ports.html and http://fc3spro.com/main.html

If you want to keep them working run a cat and hook it up to your split air pipe, or order a pre silencer from racing beat.

If you turbo a NA you have to ditch the actuators for the 6pt anyways so the exhaust BP does not matter any more, as far as the 6pt system is concerned.

(Edit...remove misinformation...if you don't know, don't post)

Incorrect. They open from backpressure ONLY, they are not RPM dependent, nor do they have a solenoid controlling them that magically opens them at 3800.

They start opening at 1.2 PSI, and stop at 2.1 PSI...

J-rat is correct, in STOCK FORM this will most likely occur "around" 3500-4000rpm, but the rpm has nothing to do with it. Especially once you go with a different exhaust, then everything changes.

iceblue, please do not post on something you do not know, I see Aaron already edited your post, but consider this just some words of advice. In the 2nd gen section we're not going to allow misinformation, if we can help it, anymore.
