S-AFC, when is it useful?
S-AFC newbie question. with a AFC can you eliminate your MAF or do you need a full standalone to do that. Whats your input. and is there anything to gain if im doing a custom cold air. sorry for the dumb question.

ALLRIGHT!!!
Running TOO LEAN is BAD for emissions as well!
Running TOO RICH does NOT give you power!!
the S-AFC is NOT a standalone ECU so you CANNOT eliminate your "MAF" It just piggybacks the stock ECU and sensor signals
(That was not a dumb question really
)

thank you for the clarification. i just want to know if i can get rid of that eye soar in my intake track. i have all the piping planed out and routed for a cold air, i just dont want to have to work in that damn AFM. (sorry for taking this post in a not so intended direction)

Anyway, I've talked to my mechanic at length about the S-AFC (he's got 10 years experience with rotaries, including drag cars) and he's assured me that a dyno isn't needed to tune it, nor a wideband. In his words, a couple of good, hard runs on a quiet road is all you need.
Make of that what you will. Me, I trust him, plus it sounds a hell of a lot better than $125 an hour to do the same job...

So a lot of you didn't like the sound of this. Well, I'm not worried about it anymore. We finally programmed the S-AFC tonight.
With a wideband.

We went for a drive for an hour and a half. He leaned out in my cruise range (2600-3000) and enriched things in the upper end (to be safe, as he put it.)
Depending on load, my ratio for that "cruise range" is now about 14.7-15. Upper end has been set for around 12.
So there ya go...
