Question RX7 Opnions wanted on everything!!

hey im just after some info on my rx7 turbo. im pllanning to use it as a daily driver as well as a track car. (not hard out racing just speed events etc), im gettin it converted to manual and having a brass button clutch and lightened flywheel installed. i also want to do up the suspension and put mags on it. i was looking at 17x9 with 225's on the back and 17x8 with 205's on the front good idea or bad?? also i have been contemplatin gettin kyb agx's with srpings but some ppl have suggested HKS Hyper Max shockies. Wat r the best for my money and wat do i need??? is it neccesary to get HKS shcokies or is it overkill. also ive takin the a/c out im puttin an elec fan in and also ive takin out the air pump and catalic coverters (twin pipe with two mufflers dont no wat brand) im plannin to remove the omp and run it on 2 stroke oil (premix) and also plan to take out the acv an egr valves. i was thinkin of also tryin to make a cold air box wit a k+n filter good idea??? also should i port my wastegate or jus leave?? and im gettin the tb ported and butterflies removed. when i get to this stage (i also wana put a 3" single exit exhaust on) would it be a good idea to also get an apexi fuel controller or would it be alrite stock???

i no theres heaps but im jus after opinions on this is it the rite way to go as far as makin it competitive???

thanx karl (ps i have bout 2,350 US to spend)

lol... holy ****.... hope you know how to drive a manual transmission... 'cause a manual with a brass button clutch is gonna be one hell of a car to learn on......

Port the wastegate, get a boost gauge, then do some fuel mods, THEN get the exhaust....

and... uhmm... competitive at WHAT?

You have 2350 to spend, but you want to do the engine, suspension and wheels/tires on that budget? Not going to happen, a decent set of wheels/tires is going to run you almost half your budget right there. AGX shocks are great, no need for the HKS, and Eibach Prokits are a good spring choice. Say goodbye to ~500 right there. You have ~800 left, you need to look seriously at fuel delivery long before you think about removing the cats or futzing with the catback. I leave it to others to suggest how to spend the remaining 800.

I hope you're not counting the cash for the 5 speed conversion in that 2350..

oh, and 205s will fit fine on 6" rims, 8" are overkill. 225s on 7" and 245 on 8" sounds like a good combo to me.

Don't mess with the OMP unless you absolutely have to.

yeah man thats not includ conversion. i can get the agx's and springs 4 $1600 NZ or $750 US. then im gonne get some 17's outa the buy sell they go for about $1200 nz or $560 US. Then its already got no cats etc thats all gone theres also no a/c and no air pump. ive already done all that. and i want it to be competitve for jus beginner racin (kinda like time trails) dont have to have a roll cage etc. amm so 225's and 245's will fit under the guards happily?? also i want to do the engine up and remove emmisions as there are no emissions tests in New Zealand. i want to do the tb mod then a 3" im jus worried that itll be to much for the standard comp and it will stuff up hence why i was thinkin of gettin an apexi fuel controller.

also its a jap import thats why its auto also its 1986 the 1st year they came out in jap.

thanx karl

Edit: my wording sucked..

All things being equal, on a neutral handling car, increasing the size of the rear tires will have the tendancy to increase understeer. You're better off with same size all around.

Don't need a camber kit with AGX, but you will if you change springs.

well ive been readin info in the suspension section and it seems that 400 front and 275 back for the spring rate seems to be the way to go. im 17 dont care if my teeth fall out. ill be usin it for street and beginner type racin so will agx's handle the jandle or should i get thsoe koni yellows (i think thats wat they called) also does the dtss system make the backend feel like its movin when u go round corners fast??? i had that feelin the other day wel goin 110km/h it felt like the back end stepped out almost.

205's won't fit on a 8" rim, you would be looking at 225 and 255 size tires front/back for that particular rim width.

This is what I recommend: Buy AGX and some springs and tires, decent inexpensive street tires for the stock rims and spend the rest on seat time. A coil over setup won't make you fast, experience does. Here's an example: I was at a track day with a few friends, one was a gutted wanna be racer with a T04 and some goodies, the other was a mostly stock 88 AE, guess who romped who? The mostly stock AE walked away from us, who was the driver? A former Mazda facory racer.

Seat time make you competative, bolt-ons do not.
