RX7 NewBIE .

Hey,

I am running out of time and I need answer quick. I'm an Auto Tech but haven't done anything with Rx7's.

I have a 1990 N/A Rx7 with a blown motor and I want to swap either

JDM MAZDA RX7-TT 13B-TT COMPLETE 5SPEED ENGINE SWAP FD

What is involved? Will a Turbo Rear end from a FC work with the FD tranny? IE driveshaft!?

Has anyone done this swap before? Any input would be great !!!

J

oh god. READ THE FAQ!

it's not gonna happen. either swap in a 20B 3-rotor engine (about $10k, or so), or swap in a TurboII 13bt, for a few grand, plus some work. or rebuild the n/a 13b for a couple grand.

better yet, just get out from under it now, and buy yourself a TurboII or an FD

Ohh .. God .. I did read them ... Whats the difference btw that JDM motor and the TurboII 13bt? Is that the turbo motor out of FC's? What did 20B's come in and why are they better to swap?

Dude, I will warn you now. Most everyone on this forum thinks they are some kind of hot shot rotary god, and wont give you the time of day. If you dont know your ****, they expect you to go read up on it and know everything before you ask questions, which kind of defeats the purpose of asking questions in the first place. If you ask.... well, basically anything around here be prepared for people to start talking ****. Just for warning.

But anyway, onto your topic, I dont think the mounts line up properly on the FD to FC swap. I mean yeah those FD motors sound nice being twin turbos and all, but its gonna take some fab work to get it to mount properly.

As for the 20B, its just a 3 rotor engine as oppose to the 2 rotor 13B. The 20B makes somewhere around 280-300 hp stock and with out turbos. But they go for around $6000 used, and as for what trans and ECU you would need, I dont have the slightest idea.

But anyway, my suggestion would be to pick up a Tii swap. They are only like $1300-1800. And it sure beats the hell out of trying to sell your car and hunt down a decent Tii for about the same price as you will be paying for the swap. Im doing the same swap right now, and Im actually going to come out better then if I had bought a Tii car in the first place.

But thats just my two cents.

Swapping in the 13B-REW requires major fabrication. Mounts are different, and you will need to fabricate nearly everything (exhaust, intercooler stuff, fuel system, etc.). Also the stock twin turbos are crap, so you'll be converting to a single turbo.

A decent cost estimate if you have to farm some of the work out is $12-$15K.

No real differences between the J-Spec engine and the North American engine. Minor emissions differences but it's inconsequential.

Is that the turbo motor out of FC's?
All Japan FCs were turbo.

What did 20B's come in and why are they better to swap?
Eunos Cosmo luxury car. It's not that the 20B is "better", it's just that in some cases it's easier. With just a set of mounts it bolts right in, and the swap process is well documented.

General cost would be $15K or more if you have to pay for some of the work.

With all due respect in regards to your mechanical abilities, I also recommend going with the 13-BT TII swap, to avoid major headaches. Make sure you have the complete engine, tranny, driveshaft, differential, sensors under the hood, AFM, sensors hidden in passenger footwell, ECU, engine and instrument panel harness (anything that plugs into the ECU) for a bolt-in swap. The Differential comes from the fact that the turbo and NA have a different flange on the (can't think of the name) input thingy
