RX-7 Turbo II with LS1 Motor in it?

I'm doing a build up on my RX-7. I've always loved my RX-7. Bought it new in 1987 and couldn't part with it. Alas it has some 150K miles on the motor and it's about done.

So, I'm building a new motor for for 1999 Twin Turbo Trans Am. Strictly drag car at this point. It came with a T-56 6-speed which I'm replacing with a Turbo 400 transmission.

So! I have a spare 6-speed and a spare LS1 motor. It has heads and cam and pushes over 400 RWHP through a 12-bolt on the dyno. It also doesn't weigh much more than the stock rotory motor.

I think it would be a fun project. I'd like to turn this into a roadrace car. We rent Road America every year and my TA just isn't gonna cut it anymore with the pure drag mentality I'm throwing into it.

I have some questions about what I'm attempting.
1. Will the stock rear end hold? I've got some guys around here with 400+ HP on their Rotaries and they seem to be fine.
2. Will the LS1 motor completely throw the handling off on the car? I love the handling it has stock!
3. Should I just rebuild the stock rotory and build that up instead? What's the cost these days for something like that?

Thanks in advance,
Charlie

Almost everyone on here will tell you to rebuild the original engine. I also say that you should stick with the original engine. There is alot you can do to make it alot faster, basically as fast as you want with a TII(or as fast as you can afford).
