RX-7 Loses all power after running for a while

I bought an 86 N/A RX-7 about a week ago, and am trying to fix some of the problems.

This particular problem has happened twice after I've been sitting in stop and go traffic. The car doesn't seem to be getting hot at all, but it starts bogging if I give it more than just a little bit of gas. If I accerlerate very slowly, the car does fine. However, if I give it any gas at all, it's like the engine completely loses all power. The previous owner told me that if you kill the engine for about 5 minutes, this problem will go away. It's got me stumped.

My car also suffers from the 3800 rpm hesitation, and one of the 6 port actuators is stuck open all the time. I just haven't had time to look into that yet.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'd do the standard 3800 RPM fixes- grounding from the engine to firewall, first, then see if the power problem persists.
This is a strange problem.
Since you just got the car, I'd go through it top to bottom, like get a new air filter, fuel filter, SPARK PLUGS, (absolutely), and do a tune up- timing, TPS, and idle. and clean the injectors.
Check the compression too.
Also- chekc your coolant level... many coolant level warning lights don't work- could be overheating, if coolant is very low, the temp guage won't regiester it... anf power will be real bad.
The cat may be clogged, and overheating, clamming up further- killing power.

A good idea when posting questions like this is also to give more info on the car itself. Mods can really change diagnoses.
Good luck.... let's see what others say about it.
