Rusted Rotors
Rusted Rotors
I was wondering how bad everyone's rotors and calipers rust. Do they rust that easy? Noticed that there is an outside ring on the outer edge of the rotor that is rusted. Looks like the pad does not make very good contact there. Seems like this part is prone to rust and happened on my last rotors. It only happens on the front rotors too. Just got my rotors, pads, and calipers replaced, and don't want this to happen again. Is there anyway to stop this rust from building up?
Its normal. Some brake pads contact the rotor all the way to the edge and others dont reach all the way out there. Its just surface rust and I wouldnt worry about it destroying your rotors. It will take many years for the rust to actually damage the rotors.

I realize that rust is probably normal, but is there anyway I can get rid of it? Anything I can spray on to break it up? Just looks really bad. My last rotors got so rusted they got pitted. And had them on for less than a year.

Dont spray anything on your rotors, if you want to get rid of the rust get some rotors that are plated with a nonrusign material, I think powerslot rotors have this featrue, I dont see any rust on the rim of my rotors.

Here's a simple little proof for you all. Look at your rotors one day. Now don't drive for two or three days. Look at the rotors now, they'll be rusted. Metal rusts, it's science, don't worry.

it is normal though ... my stock ones are showing some rust, u can always machine them

yeah thats exactly what I was about to say. I think I'm going to paint my hubs red to match my calipers. I bought these cross drilled and slotted rotors cause they always look really pretty, lol, however what the pictures never show is how badly rusty they get. That paint is cheap and like the others have said once you step on the break once or twice the rust will come off where the brake pads are.
just get some 1600 degree engine paint and paitn the entire rotor black. then the first time you hit the brakes you will get rid of all the paint that is on the brake path of your brake pad and the rest of the rotor will be protected from rusting. I did it a year ago with some brembos I got and mine are rust free.

This is real bad advise - painting brake surface WOW!
