Rusted out HKS Sport and temporay replacement.

Well after 14 years I had to retire my cat back. It was an old HKS sport system that was used when I got it. Basically all the welds are rusting away and one of the tips finally fell off. The mufflers themselves are actually still good. I've been patching it with exhaust putty and aluminum cans(see pics) for the past few years. I don't currently have the funds for the RB system and really want a different style tips anyway so I threw something else together. I got a y-pipe from rockauto.com which I review here: https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generati.../#post11879344. And found a set of used mufflers on Ebay. They are no name cans that someone used crush bent pipe on but they'll do in a pinch. Heres the old exhaust.

Here are the Ebay mufflers. I actually got them from Rotary Resurrection's Ebay store. He's got a lot of stuff if you're in need of something. They are I think 2.25" or 2.5"cores and the piping to the mufflers is 2.5" I think. Hopefully the over sized piping will make up for the flow disruption of the crush bends and smaller sized y-pipe piping. This is a temporary setup anyway and the butt dyno detects no real difference. It is louder though. Probably too loud for my taste. Sounds good above 4 to 5k once the drone gets out of it. It has a deep resonance that bothers me more than anything. It's tolerable for now. I should mention I have the RB header/ pre-silencer with street ported TII rotor housings(no spitters/diffusers in the exhaust port). Anyway I'd like to use the usable piping from the HKS along with some nice bends and a couple resonators to replace this y-pipe and crush bends and I should be set. This is really just temporary till I get a welder and learn to use it anyway. Total cost $143 and some change including shipping on all items. More pics.

I love how modest old school exhausts are.

Good, let us know how it works son.

That( modesty) was at times my only complaint. I would've liked slightly bigger tips. Though maybe not as big as the ones I have now. I now have joined the softball shooter club.
I will try to get some pictures/video sometime soon and post up. Performance wise I can't say if I notice any or much difference. Sound wise it has/had some annoying resonance/drone in it and it is louder than I want. At full tilt it sounds decent though. I smelled something that smelled hot with a tinge of something burning the other day and now the resonance doesn't seem as bad. That or I've just got used to it.
