Rusted Exhaust Help!

Ok so heres the deal, trying to take my exhaust off at the downpipe: one flange has the bolt threaded into it and its held to the flange at the downpipe with a bolt. I got both bolts off, but the thing is rusted to hell and the two pieces wont seperate more than about a quarter of an inch. I've sprayed WD40, white lithium grease, hit the open end of the bolt with a hammer. Nothing seems to be seperating these two pieces. Any suggestions? This is all done under the car mind you. All of the hangers are off so theoretically I should have just been able to pull the exhaust (dp back) off once I got the bolts off. Anyone know anything about Naval Jelly?

I wouldn't use naval jelly, it'll just make a mess of things. I'd heat up the downpipe untill its cherry red and dowse it with WD a few times. Then just pop a couple of big screwdrivers on each side and pry liberally. Should come off with no fuss.

Just a simple propane torch.

A zippo will work too but it may take awhile......

Here is a example of what you need. You can pick one up for roughly the same price at your local home depot.

Hecubus84 if you are ever in the Southern VA area I will buy you a beer. The Torch/screwdrivers worked amazingly.

WD-40 is crap.

Heat it with a propane torch running brazing fuel until it's bright red, then soak the area with PB Blaster while it is still glowing. STAND BACK and wear goggles. Do this several times. Then soak with PB Blaster again and try to remove the fastener.

I contest that statement. WD-40 is like a liquid form of Duct Tape, it works on everything. Although truth be told I never have used PB Blaster, perhaps I should invest in a can.

Yeah, WD is crap. Its basically just kerosene in a spray can, it was developed to displace water (hence the WD). WD is cheap and suits this kind of job just fine. Any petrochemical would work in this application, spraying the best penetrating oil you can find is just a waste of money in my opinion.

Try PB Blaster and you will change your mind. Seriously, the only thing I use WD-40 for now is cutting oil. It's a poor penetrant, useless as a lubricant and there are far better products to deal with moisture. As a cutting oil, however, it keeps my drill bits and saw blades very sharp.
