running too lean

how would I fix a lean running car? hmmm... I'm thinking replace my fuel filter, probably because it's the stock one from japan since like 1989. What are some other ways to shoot more fuel into my engine? my exhaust housing on my turbo glows. I should probably fix my timing too, but i'm not sure which way is advance and which way is retard.

Im not pro but i think you may need to clean your system, filter and injectors and if that isnt enough. if your highly modded get bigger injectors and/or a safcII

How do you know it's running lean? You've given no info on what clues or tools you used to come to this conclusion, so it's practically impossible to give you a proper answer.

Set it to the stock setting using the instructions in the FSM or Haynes.

well.. took my sparkplugs out and looked at em, they were lightly colored. I also noticed that my exhaust housing on my turbo manifold was red hot after idling for a small amount of time, or just driving calmly around the block. i'm sorta confused on the timing part because the guy who sold me the motor told me to retard it 2 degrees from stock, but it only seems to run right with it advanced a lot. btw, it's an s4 to s5 13bt swap using the s5 block, uim, lim, and turbo. hey also, it feels like it has a serious hesitation at about 3000 rpm. What does this mean? it's not all the time though..

As I've already said several times, set the timing back to stock first. You can't troubleshoot a problem like this with the timing set differently, as timing can be one of the causes of glowing turbos. Running too lean isn't.
