Running Rich On Premix!!!!!????

hey guys i put about 16oz of premix every time i fill up teh car. i always fill it up when the car is on empty. I own a 88 gxl n/a doesnt it hold like 16 gallons of fuel? anyways i think i should reduced the amount of premix to maybe 12oz? because as of right now i have black smoke coming out of my exhaust every other time i turn on the car.And it smells really really bad like fuel or maybe oil.. i completly removed t he omp and got a omp block off plate. the car has 1500 miles on a rebuild engine so what should i do? can running rich cause some problems?

I use 16oz on mine and dont really have a running rich issue, I dont think that'd cause any problems other then smoking as you stated.

Oil smoke isn't black. The 128 to 1 ratio you are running right now isn't going to make much of a difference as far as smoke or smell. Does the car smoke after sitting for an extended period of time or does the amount of time between starts make any difference?

Is that the only thing it does?

Meaning does it rev slow, or hesitate? Or anything else?

it smokes everyother time i turn the car on.. every morning it will i think sometimes it might not im not sure.. i know its only like a puff for like 2 seconds and then dissipates.. im not sure since i have a rebuild engine i only go up to 3k rpms... i dont see any hesitation it actually feels and runs like a million bucks i can feel torque even under 3k... is kinda weird but im getting really low gas milage like 150 miles for 3/4 of the full tank

Did you ever have the injectors cleaned/rebuilt???

You've got some problems if that is all the gas milage you are getting. But it may be because your motor is not broke in, I'm not sure on that one.

it has nothing to do with the breakin in period cuz whe i first refilled it with gas it last me 220-230 for teh 16 gallons. which was a lil less than beforer i rebuilded the engine.. also i got a ported street ported engine.

16oz is a lot!

I use 8 per tank fill-up (about 12 gallons), making my ratio 8oz per 12*128 = 8/1536, or 1:192. I still get a nice smoke cloud at start-up sometimes, even though my crankcase oil level has remained at right where it started, 700 miles ago.

The smoke cloud is blue, meaning running real rich at start-up. Hitting the fuel cut switch when it starts burbling and smoking makes it run very well for a second or two . . after which I turn the fuel pump back on and warm it up for a minute or two. Hot starts never produce a cloud of smoke . . but my car does have a more distinctive smell now that I use premix.

should i be worried about smoking every other time even after start up..?? can i do something to prevent it? so i should just lower the amount of premix to maybe 10oz for the 16 gallons i have on my fc right? or do i have 14 gallons? can i anyone verify that for me?cuz if i have 14 gallons then 10oz shouldnt be bad

Your not running rich because of pre-mix. Tweo stroke oil has a lower octane rating than gasoline therefore it should make you run leaner than with the MOP working. The smoke and smell is not suppossed to be there at all either. My car NEVER smokes at start-up. Cold or warm it makes no difference. I run 16 OZ of TCW III certified coastal 2 stroke oil. If your getting the cheap **** then that is one major factor in the smoke that could be because of crappy oil quality. Try switching brands and if it still smokes after two or three tanks then reduce the amount little by little. Although I don't like to recommend that. I like to be on the safe side and have all 16 OZ in there instead of 8-12oz. Be careful when you choose your two stroke Hans it isn't something you should be careless about.

Try coastal out it is damned good and not that expensive.

I also want to add that ALL FC's run RICH from the factory. If you have rebuilt and blueprinted injectors chances are that they are working at 100% and thusly are running like the people at mazda felt it was needed so that the engine didn't blow up. i. e. PIGG RICH. If you are going to the dyno try saving up for an S-AFC so you can tune it a little and make it less rich.

Search for my thread on pre-mix.

I have heard some wierd **** comming from the atkins people. Although they are a reputable shop and all some stuff still scares me from them and the others. Much like the PR sleeve debacle. :-/

I would say make your own research like I did on pre-mixing and then decide on your own not based upon what you have been told.

Sounds like bad oil control rings, to me. Not a premix problem.

I've been using 16oz per tank of quiksilver or bombadier (sp) 2 cycle oil since I started premixing, and have had no troubles with any of it smoking., or refusing to start, cept when the battery is dead.

Try different brands of 2 stroke oil or use a little less. If you monitored your previous oil/fuel usage, you'd have noticed that 128:1 is very rich for an NA. Check your plugs. Try 150-200:1.

Do a little math.
1000miles/15mpg=67gallons
67gallons*128ozpergal==8534 ounces of gas used
assume MOP injects a quart oil per 1000 miles,
8534fuel/32oil = factory 266:1
Use your own oil/gas/mpg/miles numbers to figure out your own ratio prior to switching to premix.

And, make sure you have no vacuum leaks, proper airflow(no clogged filter, working 6 ports), correct timing(I prefer advanced), correct fuel pressure, new/adjusted or working sensors(o2, tps,.....), and the correct motor oil weight for your weather conditions.

Ok. How about leaking fuel injectors? Black smoke equals waaay too much fuel. Just follow a car that has it's choke stuck (60's or 70's vintage). It'll have a trail of black smoke coming out the exaust.

Bad oil control rings will give a puff of grey/white smoke upon startup from cold, but during later starts might very well not show any sign of smoke.

damn i think teh smoke might actually be black... if this the case.. it might be fuel. now that i think about it the car smells like fuel BAD! like all the time.. is not as strong but you can smell it .. and i shoudlnt since i have all teh vacum lines and the air pump all in working condition.. also the exhuast that came with teh car is all rusted and has only one cat... could that increase the wsmell of fuel? also im using castrol gtx 20w-50 as my oil
