Running on one rotor....
Hey guys, just for a piece of mind....
the mechanic from the shop i had my car in today called and said the primary injector for my rear rotor, the clip was broken and after he installed the secondary injectors ( 720cc's ), and started the car it was running on one rotor for 5secs'ish....
my question is, could/did this hurt anything?...
thanx....

the guy called and i told him to put a new clip on it and i'll pay for it....
he said "no prob" and he used one of the one's from my secondary injectors, i had to change them from OVAL too SQUARE anyways....
so things should be ok?...

they put in resistors to change them from low imped too high imped....
but thats not the worst of the story....
my car is dead now, completely dead, we have no idea whats wrong with it, i boosted it a little bit and it fell on it's nose and ran on one rotor, white smoke everywhere, i pushed the clutch in and it died instantly....
it wont start and when i go to start it, billows white smoke everywhere....
we are 80% sure it's raw gas though, we took out the EGI fuse and the spark plug and got all the gas out of there, and when we let it sit for 5mins not touching it, flooded again....
we think an injector is stuck open, he also says he DID put resistors in, but everything is so bloody confusing....
it ran perfectly off boost and all, but when i boosted it, white smoke everywhere and bucked then died....
MAX, you seam to be the "go too" guy and know a hell of a lot, what you think?...
EDIT: the guy who works at the shop is taking care of me though, he said they will fix everything and stand behind their work, he even stayed with me till the truck got there and made sure my car was tucked into the shop, then he drove me home.... i just want my car fixed and running properly....
P.S. the car just died and i couldnt turbo time the turbo from a little boosting, could this play a factor at all...?

not sure, my friend said coolant, and i said gas....
but the mechanic said he is 90% sure it is NOT coolant because there is no signs of it leaking, or it even in the motor.... or in the exhaust....
we both think it's raw, unburnt gas.... because it was the same white smoke when we unflooded the car by taking out the spark plug and cranking it over as the smoke that came out of the exhaust....
after cranking it, for about 30secs or more white smoke continued to come out of the exhaust.... just not as much....

oh, and my car just idling will smoke like a ****, but it's black and i know it's gas....
on my FCON i guess there's a **** inside that i can turn from 1-5 that will richen or lean the mixture out, would it be a decent idea to turn it down a tick or 2?...

White = Coolant...
It's a seal, I bet once you get it started after a long time it'll POUR coolant out onto the ground...same thing happened to my first generation.

You guys are completley missing the biggest point in this thread, his car is doing EXACTLY what my first generation did, it needed a rebuild because the coolant seals gradually went out.
When my car DID start, it would run on one rotor until the smoke disappeared, then it was fine, no smoke while i was driving down the road.
When starting, my car DID leave smoke everywhere, WHITE SMOKE.
When starting, the plugs would be dowsed with coolant after turning it over one turn.

it doesent smoke after we unflood the motor though
it ALMOST started but once again, flooded....
how could installing injectors lead to coolant seal failure?, thats what i dont understand....
and the RX7 tech said it is 90% NOT the seals, he did some checks but tommorow he is doing a coolant pressure test ( i believe ) to make 100% sure....

running with no gas to one rotor shouldnt hurt anything.
i forgot to hook up my rear primary injector once and then drove the car about 10 miles thinking it had gone into limp mode (stupid i know). once i hooked the injector back up it ran just fine and has ever since. hope that is some consolataion.
unless there is something this mechanic isnt telling you, there is no reason i can see why changing the injectors or even running on one rotor could cause coolant seal failure. i hope its just flooded from all the injector issues. good luck.

thanx dude....
no matter what he said he will stand behind his work 100%, thats a comforting note....
it looks like one of the secondary's are sticking open even and constantly pouring gas into the motor and it's constantly flooding....
either way, i was freaked to hell but now it's time to play the waiting game....
not sure why it would all the sudden **** out on boost though....

It's not due to him doing something, he might have over heated it...
And arch, mine didn't smoke after I thought I unflooded it either, I had people from all ends of the rx7club tell me it was the injectors, it was fuel issue and in the end it came down to a coolant seal...
If it's WHITE smoke then it's coolant smoke.
If it's BLACK/BLUE it's a mixture of oil and/or fuel.

it's white, and smells like raw gas....
not sure.... how could it have over-heated though...?
they didnt drive it without me there, and i was cautious and kept staring at the guage....
when it idled there it was black smoke, when i was shifting and boosting it was white....
oh, and also, it was white when they started the car after the injectors were in for a while....
at that point it was, once again, raw gas and definitly not coolant....

When my N/a used to take a fuel dump, it would smoke white till the exhaust system burnt dry.. I would say its the injectors, were they new or used? Put the originals back in, if it still floods like made, you've got a toasted injector driver and I would look at the injector wiring..

If the smoke smells like fuel - it's fuel.
Another possibility (besides a leaking 720) - during the install, they may have accidentally swapped the primary & secondary injector wires.
It's easy to get them crossed.

the car ran perfect untill i got on boost, then it chugged, stuttered and fell on it's nose....
yes MAX thats exactly what it's doing!...
there was tons of gas in the exhaust but it got little and little every time i tried cranking it!...
it has to be fuel, they will fix it, i want it done for the car show tommorow tonight....

UPDATE:
Car's back and running good, the problem was that one of the secondary injectors they installed was squirting intermediately, on and off, and basically stuck open....
all that worry and headache for an injector, sheesh....
but things are good, my exhaust has a slightly different note too it ( wtf ), but other then that, the car doesent smoke at all and runs good!...

good.. the exhaust may sound different cuz MAYBE you had a cat.. but the fuel may have burnt it out.. if you have a cat check it it may be blocked/damaged. i think my exhaust note changed when i upped my injectors too.. i didnt sweat it.. i dont have cats...
