Running 4xBUR9EQ's ok?

I went on a trip to see my sister this weekend. Just over 250 miles. I wanted to change the sparkplugs when I got there to see if I could get any better MPG on the way back. Going there I was getting abotu 18mpg@ 85ish mph +stops.

When I went to buy plugs, they were hard as hell to find. The fourth auto shop (checkers/aap) had only a full box of BUR9EQs. He asked me if I wanted the full case, and I coudl have picked up a box of 20 for $60, but passed the offer :/ What a deal huh? I figured they must have been on the shelf for a long *** time or somethin.

So I bought only BUR9EQs. I figured if 4 didn't work, I coudl use two of the old 7s. I put 4 new 9s in, and it started up like a champ-- no problems. The old plugs were crusted in carbon btw. Only 6000ish miles on them too.

Anyhow, on the way back I got around 19mpg, rolling at about 100 or so most the way on the deserted interstate. (We're talking middle of nowhere BTW).

Anyhow, those are MPGs with the O2 sensor unplugged. The wire broke at the sensor a few weeks ago. I probably could have gotten alot better mpg with it working :/

Is there any problem running 4xBUR9EQs?

Not really... They work just fine, though there may be some long term problems due to the different temperature ranges. Do a search, some people do this deliberately on their engines for various reasons.

It won't really hurt the engine, they just won't last as long.

I'll have the BUR7EQs in stock later this week at my webstore, but the 9s are probably fine.

If you start having fouling then go back to the 7s on the leadings.

Mark, you gonna start selling plugs now?
Excellent, glad you're expanding the product line.

The "9's" are colder range plugs than the "7's".
Most people that deliberately use 4 of them are running significantly more power over stock, or their motor is in a race car(constant high RPMs).

They are perfect if you do alot of highway driving, but if your car is a daily driver they will foul (wear) quicker.

I use them for both leading and trailing, I figure using the colder heat range is a little safer. i think I seen somewhere that Mazda used the two different heat ranges for emissions purposes..

lol, I was thinking that too, but I needed what money I had to buy gas to get home with. :/ Its like $50 in gas to get there, and $50 back. I wished I had the money for them when I was there :/ The guy still gave me 10% off though, so they came to $4.59/ea

Yeah, those plugs cost twice as much as the NGK's for my Impreza.. You should call the store and see if the offers still valid, I'd spend 60 bucks for 5 changes instead of nearly 3, lol..

Yeah, Some new parts (instead of just the rebuilt stuff) adding this week the NGK 7s and 9s, and the Denso Iridium for Toyota and 13B, as well as 3M #33 electrical tape (the best tape in the world for automotive use) and probably the Bosch O2 sensors.

Working next on getting a Redline online dealership. Maybe after 7 stock that will come through.

And I should have the first samples for a new logicon panel. Kevin (rotary resurrection) had been wanting a new silver panel and after about 10 prototypes, I have a new silver reverse lit panel that looks pretty good.

Out of curiosity, think you can pricematch or beat a $4.99 plug? -- maybe sell it sets or somethin?

I haven't set prices yet, but I was looking at $4 per plug for non-iridium plugs

Thats not bad at all if you're buying several plugs or have another order with you to save on shipping. Plus for anyone who doesn't have a local aap/checkers, $4.00 + shipping is an awesome deal!
