RTV on Rear Stationary gear flange

Do you guys think its a good or bad idea to put a little bit of copper RTV on the rear stationary gear flange where it bolts up to the end plate? I placed a small bead as extra prevention from oil leak but i dont know if that was such a smart idea anymore. I also replaced the O ring and main seal. Let me know if I should scrape the RTV off.

It isn't necessary, but it isn't going to hurt anything. The o-ring will prevent oil from seeping there.

i generally do both, RTV and new o-ring. the irons usually have some rust pitting after years of use and it helps prevent issues.
