Rough start and no tach???? 87 Turbo

I have a little problem with my 87 Turbo. It acts like it is misfiring during start up and almost seems as though the battery is dying (12.75 volts with car off) and then once it catches the tach dies within seconds though the car continues to run. I recently did away with the TB coolant line and have not tamed the idle so it is about 1500rpms all the time, hard to tell if there is a misfire then. Any ideas on where to start??
Thanks,
Rob

12.75 volts without a charging input is damn good...

Trailing coil(s) problem, perhaps?

I was wondering about that myself but was not sure of a good way to test it? Any ideas???
Thanks,

Got a FSM? Reading the coils out is fairly easy, if ya know how to use a meter. You can also check for the 12v input at the Black/Yellow wires (key on, 2 wires).

EDIT: DON'T read the coils out with the key on!!!, just the voltage reading refered to above...

Yep, I have the manual and was just reviewing it. Am I looking for 12 volts from the two wire connector that hooks to the trailing coil/ignitor? Do I hook the meter to the two wires rather than looking for volts from the yellow??? wire and connecting my black probe to a ground? Am I hooking the red and black probes to the two wires is what I am getting at?

Have you reset your computer lalely? If not, that should fix it.

Aw ****...red (positive) probe will go to the B/Y wire (get to a bare metal spot at the spade/pin inside the connector on the end of the wire), black lead will go to a ground (bare metal on the chassis, or on one of the studs/ nuts holding the trailing coil assy down). This is for a voltage reading, for a resistance reading, all power must be off, and you're going to put one probe (won't matter which) on one of the coil terminals, and the other probe on the other one...The coils should read close to 0 ohms, if I remember correctly...

Okay, I will try the reset, have not done that lately. I will also probe out the coil, hope it is that in a way and not something more elaborate. Thanks for the advice though. I will let you know what I find.
