Unhappy Rough Running, Electrical Problem?

I just bought an 88 SE, from one of the members who was selling the car on ClubFCS3.

I drove the car from Raleigh, NC around the area around 100 miles, and back to Charlotte, NC, about 175 miles fine. I drove 20 miles to work. Fine. I drove 2 miles to my parents house and came outside maybe 10 mins later, and the battery was dead. I "kick-started" the car, and it was fine. Well, it started to stutter a little bit. It got pretty bad, and I immediately drove straight home.

It starts up okay, it idles pretty good. But when you drive it, there is some hesitation and it gets real jerky like there is no power under normal throttle. The Voltmeter jumps around a good bit, and I noticed last night the headlights were dimming and un dimming back and forth. But when the car is at WOT, it doesnt really seem to have any problems, except for maybe a second of slight stutter.

Today, I took it around again and this time the tach died. Please before anyone calls me a n00b and tells me to search, I did, and it seems like it MAY be the coil? It just seems if it was, that it would only get worse with WOT than better. And the other thing is, why would the Voltmeter be jumping around?

I don't feel like I got intentionally sold a bad car, but I am pretty discouraged right now since I bought it cuz it was a good running car, and I didn't even get to enjoy it at all before Im having problems...

Oh, and the charge light is on on the dash...

Please help.

iono, sorta sounds like your battery is going dead, along with some other electrical problems. try checking the alternator and charging your battery to full charge again. i doubt that your coils are bad, or else they wouldn't fire at all.

I fixed it. The main ground at the rear rotor was not connected at all...
