Rough Idle...What's a snail hose. HELP!!!
Hi All,
I am new to the thread (read alot in the past, just did not post). thoroughly respect all the technical knowledge in here!!!
I have a simple question. Recently my 90 TII is having really rough idle (no accessories on) and would hunt really bad w/ the AC is on when warmed up. My local shop said that it is a bad SNAIL HOSE and the cost is ~$175 to fix it. Can anyone tell me what exactly is a snail hose and where is it in the engine bay? If I know what it is, I can probably replace myself since typically hoses are pretty cheap, but labor is not so cheap. Is the diag. by the shop correct? He checked the BAC valve and said that it was good (FYI). Anyone had similar problems?
Thanks in advance,
TII_Boy

did the mechanic happen to tell you what the snail hose is used with? i've got the shop manual for the 91 models, i can try looking it up in there, but i'd need a general idea of what components to look at in there.

Unfortunately, I did not get any info from the mechanic. I believe it is somewhere along the intake side of things. Sorry, no more info is avaialble. Thanks,

I would say the snail hose is the intake hose between the air box and turbo. It is shaped kinda like a snail or an 'S'. I've also heard this hose is bad for getting hard and cracking, they are expensive to replace.
