Rough Idle?
I just popped in a working tranny in my 1989 and i got the car to start. During the process of the removal and installation of the transmission i had the car sitting down so i took the time to install a Weapon R cold air intake. i dunno if that has anytime to do but the car starts but the idle sucks. it kinda sputters, like if its choking. moving from around 800 and going low. When i turn on the headlights the idle gets really bad. like the engine vibrates sometimes.
Anything else that i can add to get you guys to help me out better?
Oh and also i dont know what i did but the reverse light is always on no matter what.
Help a car noob please
OH also the car has no emmisions and a straight pipe.(I havent gotten it insured yet but i think its way too loud for new york).

For the reverse lights, check the backup light/5th gear switch. Located on the rear of the tranny, on the front of the extension housing. Sounds like something is wrong with it or the connection. You could try switching it out with your old one and see if that fixes it if the connections turn out ok.
As far as the idle, if it was working fine before and the problem is ONLY at idle you most likely forgot to connect a vacuum hose or two. If the car is just running rough period at all rpm ranges, did you make sure to connect the harness for the air flow meter?
And yes I don't know how you can live with a straight pipe exhaust, i thought my straight through mufflers were way too loud, so i added a pre-silencer, much better. A high flow cat and mufflers will also do the trick.

you could put all the **** you took off and put it back on.. the AFM is tuned with the stock airbox in mind, i doubt you gained any power at all by doing the swap.
the main problem probably lies in your intake duct, leaking somewhere.

ok guys thanks for the help. I fixed the uneven idle issue. it was the air intake. I tightened the straps some more and now the idle stays at a certain rpm. problem is that the rpm it stays on is 1500. theres lots of screws to adjust the idle. how should i go about to bring it down?
