Rotor Oil seals

I am just intrested how you tell if the Side seals and Oil control rings are worn out?

I have just replaced them all as my new engine is being built for power and so has to be spot on, But its somthing i'd like to know.

Some one told me to check the oil control rings are the same colour all the way round (basicly there is no silver bits where its worn through) and the Side seals are ok as long as there not damaged just replace the springs?

Does this sound right or is this way off?

Thanks........Chris

The factory manual has a certain wear limit specified for both. If you are well under it, reuse them. Most likely you will find the oil control rings can be reused.

None. Its been built from new parts (plates,Housings Rotors etc) but i also have another Second gen that has droped a Tip and needs a rebuild, its done 30-40k on that engine but i have not got a clue how old the Oil seals etc are?.

Thats the basic story behind the question?

Thanks......Chris

In the Uk there is about 6 proper Rx guys who only work on rx's, Hurley does'nt realy tune Rx's they just make Tips and seals. I have'nt realy spoken to Hurleys about this sort of stuff as it would sound like i'm seting up shop?

Uk is S**t! for tuning Rotarys, There is no cars hear doing under 11 second 1/4's. Does'nt that tell u somthing?

Let me get this straight...

You're asking how to tell if the oil seals are still good on a totally rebuilt engine with ZERO miles on it?

Sorry i think were geting our wires crossed, I own more than one car.

The engine in question has done 40k and is up for rebuild (this is the first Half bridge i built) and i dont want to go to replacing every thing if i dont need to.

Yeh but how do i tell if they are suspect?

This is my problem, I am well over my Buget on my new engine build and then to make things worse the T2 i'm running has droped a Apex seal in the rear rotor. So i am hoping to get it rebuilt without spending to much on that one, basicly anything i can get away with i will.

Do you see where i'm coming from?

All i want to know is what does Suspect Side and oil seals look like? or what am i looking for?
