The best I know is to work for someone that works with rotaries, like racing beat , mazdatrix and other special rotary shops. Kind of like learning to be a blacksmith, you had to work as an apprentice.

It does help being trained first so you know what it is involved to fix cars general.

I know if you work for a dealer, they will send you for school to learn the new cars systems, including rotary if work for mazda.

I know a guy that started that way, dave at KD rotary, was a master tech and a teacher for rotaries. Now he has his own rotary shop.

The other way is to work one one yourself like I do. My father is a mechanic and had mazda training for rotaries (back when it was rx3s) so I learned a little from to start with.

Mazda dealerships don't send tehcs to rotary schools anymore. They only send them to work on the new models. I know this because I tried to get a job at three dealerships in SC and they all said the same: no rotary schools. From what I understood, MMA no longer has rotary tech schools, and won't have them again until just before the RX-8 gets released, if it ever does...

If you want to be there when they do start having tech schools again, you probably need to start looking into getting a job at a dealership sometime within the next year, as senior techs always get the new schools first.

Well i will have formal training cause i plan on going wyotech in the next year or two. well i was thinking about getting a job at a mazda dealership but i could probably get a better paying dealership job once i finish school. Do you think there are any good rotary shops that would be willing to do an apprentice type deal? thanks for the help
