main bearing removal

Hey guys. My friend and I decided to rip apart and rebuild another engine he has laying around. Well we started replacing everything and came across the main bearings in the kit. The last engine we rebuilt we hadnt changed them. Any idea how to get these out? Do these need pressed out and pressed back in? If your wondering, its the rear bearing right below the rear main seal. Thanks.

I just press them out. The one in the front and the one in the rear housing. Just notice which direction it gets pressed out i.e look at the tab. Now for TRUE CONFESSIONS : Actually I don't have a press and the auto machine shop wasn't open on Sunday, so I found a ball that goes into a trailer hitch, and its boss was the same (a small hair under) dia as the bearing, and drove the old bearing out and the new one in. I'd suggest that you need to be very careful before pressing in the new bearing , to make sure the tab will align perfectly with the groove it sits in when its finally pressed in. If it does not align as you press it in, I seriously doubt you'll get a second chance to push it out and then start over(could be wrong), so align carefully before pressing. P.S. I did seperate the gear that holds the bearing prior to pressing out and in the bearing. Any of that make sense? By the way, I continualy am surprised at how pristine the journals are on eccentric shafts that have been used for a couple hundred miles. Easily impressed I guess.
