Rotary not so smooth...

Okay well I still dont know if my engine has encountered death because of my stupidity. And if it has ill accept that and take start a new task of rebuilding. Im hoping yall can shed some light on it and say my not Efft.

So I did an electric fan conversion of which my friend had done with no problems.(at the same time he got a brand new radiator as well and a complete emissions+PS+AC strip)

Afterward my temp gauge got higher then normal. But not more then half. Then a hot day came and it went above the halfway mark for about 4 minutes. And yes the electric fan was DEFINITELY on and DEFINITELY drawing in air from the radiator.

I figured I should put the stock fan back on and run both of them at the same time causing no point in the electric fan except for no having the enormous shroud. When doing this I remember spinning the belts slightly when turning the bolts on/off. So I hope its a timing issue....or something not too critical.

Started the car for work drove fine....until i put my foot down a little and let it rev to 5~6k range I felt a vibration through the transmission and loss of power. I knew that was wrong and did not replicate it while driving again.

Back at my house I noticed I could replicate it just sitting still. Anything past 4k the tranny vibrates and I get a weird noise, you cant hear it from the engine bay and you cant hear it in the exhaust note.

I thought to do a home compression check by taking out the EGI fuse and the leading spark plug and I hear the consistent "psst" noise that I read you should on both rotors. And the plugs were semi clean but looked like they had burnt oil on them.(not too surprising I thought) So at least I know the apex seals are okay.

So where am I at here? What should I look into doing. New engine because I warped it? Port issue? Timing? I just dont know. If im screwed dont laugh too much...but hey, then I have a project to do for college lol. Just help me out here thanks!

Your fan may be crooked causing the vibration. Make sure you installed it correctly.

Some electric fans will spin backwards if wired backwards (reversed polarity).

I'll just throw in an example...

When i replaced my water pump, whenever I would go over 4500 rpm my car felt like it was going to rattle apart. Come to find out, the pulley boss on the pump was pressed on crooked by 1/64th of an inch, almost impossible to see with the naked eye. Check the balance of your fan, measure the pulley to water pump with calipers and make sure it isn't crooked. I highly doubt your motor is screwed up, but rather something you added or put back on is put on either crooked, or is out of balance.

It's probably something simple like the others have mentioned. Crooked fan, loose bolt, etc. But just to be certain, did you remove the large 19MM bolt in the middle of the front pulley? If you did, there could be other problems.

Well I can certainly take off all that then and then re-put it all on making sure its balanced. And no I didnt touch any 19mm bolts....cause its 4 small bolts on and then 4 nuts for the fan....so no not that I recall.

Okay took the fan off and it seems fine for now....Though Is anyone against 160 Degree Thermostats? Is that a HORRIBLE Idea?

Since it started when the clutch fan was re-installed, I'm with the others in thinking it's fan related. I've also had a bad water pump bearing shake a clutch fan enough to vibrate the engine, since the fan bolts onto the pulley.

Also, just to clarify, you can't mess up the timing by slipping belts and pulleys. There's no timing belt on a rotary, so about the only way you can affect timing is to play with the CAS.
