Rotary boat questions?
I’m new to rotary engines and do not actually even have a car with one. I purchased an Ebbtibe RX –19 rotary jet boat last summer. It would not start, but since it only has 129 hours on the engine timer, I figured “what the hell” and bought it. At the time I knew nothing about rotary engines and did not know that sitting (in this case, for 3 years) without being ran was bad for the apex seal springs. It had almost no compression. I found a knowledgeable rotary engine builder/racer and had the engine rebuilt. As it only had 129 hours on, it the apex seals were still within new specifications. He replaced all the other seals and springs and it runs like a top! Unfortunately, I’m looking for MORE POWER. I purchased an 88 Turbo II engine from a co-worker who bought it NEW for an airplane project he never completed. The engine is almost complete (FI, turbo, etc), except the air flow meter (and plumming), air pump, intercooler, ECU and harness. I thought I would get a stock ECU and harness and go that route. However after looking at the manual it seems it might be easier to go with an aftermarket stand-alone and do away with all the smog stuff. Any ideas? Also, I would be interested in a trade/partial trade for an aftermarket ECU and/or water intercooler for the original engine. The engine only has 129 original hours on it and 3 hours after rebuild. It is a 13b 4 port engine with high compression rotors with 3mm apex seals. I want the keep the carburetor (Holley 4bbl) and intake and exhaust manifolds incase I never get the turbo running correctly. Please let me know if anybody has any ideas for me or is interested in my engine. Thanks!

Good choice in going with a stand alone engine management system. It's WELL WORTH the money! The stock ECU and wiring is complex, and you can't do many upgrades due to it's limiations, compared to what you can do with the new system (unlimited). You won't need the AFM with a stand alone either, it gets replaced with a MAP sensor. Don't bother with a stock IC either. Since you seem to want to do some modifications to make it powerful, the stock IC is only good for low turbo boost (about 10-12 psi I think). Grab a decent intercooler off ebay or something such as a starion/conquest one. An upgraded large turbo is another possibility. Engine porting.
