Roof wings/ hatch wings

Are these roof wings / hatch wings popular amongst the FC drivers in the states?
I have not seen many of the guys out there with them and have seen quite a few on cars out here.

I don't think they are the most efficient part for downforce etc but I do think they add unique look the the car.

what do you guys think?

I really dig them. If I had a second gen I'd rock it spoilerless with a hatch wing.

I love them. They are the only spoiler that will end up on my car I just think it flows with the car perfect. Roof wing plus wingless rear FTW.

I'd bet that they do more harm than good (if any good) for the aerodynamics of the car. They'll probably cause earlier flow separation along the hatch, causing more drag.

I am a fan depending on the car. They really look good in conjunction with those window visors.

I will probably buy the spoiler at some point. Just waiting for it to come up somewhere other than RapeHDJAPAN.COM

I'm not shooting for the world top speed run, aerodynamic or not I think they look sharp as hell. If your bring any in I'll be very tempted to grab one.

I think it would definitely take the right car.

I wouldn't have one on my car. I am sure there are a lot of people that would though.

+1 It may well hurt the performance of any wing on the back of the car too. Lower pressure and more turbulent air at best, reversion at worst.

I think there is a cheap one out here that is just double sided tape. The foresight one uses 2 screws or bolts but I have never installed one so I am not sure which or how they are attached.

I wonder if these Roof wings would cause less turbulance on the Rear window?.If that is the case, they may be GOOD,if the car doesn't have a Rear wiper and would cause less rain to accumulate during driving and allow a clearer view out of the Hatch.
I know that some of the aftermarket Spoilers I have tried actually keep the Crud off the Tail lights,So this is why I had to Mention it.

The flow normally is attached along the hatch to about halfway to two thirds of the way down (as seen in pics of yarn tuft testing). That spoiler (IT'S NOT A WING! Not directed at you in particular, just a pet peeve of mine) will probably cause turbulence and flow separation along the hatch, which, if anything, will make MORE dirt and rain hit the hatch as that turbulence draws the dirt/rain in from higher up in the airstream. This will also cause increased drag from the larger low pressure bubble behind the car.

Well that's what I'd expect to happen anyway, but if there's any general rule in aerodynamics, it's that you can't reliably make general rules. Without seeing any evidence to the contrary, I'd think it's pretty safe to assume that what I've predicted to happen, will happen, since with that spoiler you're breaking the surface as seen by the air, so it's suddenly released into nothingness where before it could just follow the hatch smootly down off the roof.

I have studied aerodynamics in University in case anyone was wondering, so I do know a few things, but I'm no expert.

i think these came out for s13s/s14s first, than to fill in the niche market they made em for the fc. Its mostly cosmetics imo.
