Is this the right pilot bearing? WTF?
I just got a spec stage 1 clutch for my '89 non turbo. I've done the clutch and everything on this car many many times. I usually install a thin needle type pilot bearing. This clutch kit did not come with one, it instead came with a large sealed bearing and the manufacture is saying that it is in fact the pilot bearing for the car. I think they are crazy. Does this huge bearing fit in there somehow as a pilot bearing? It fits around the alignment tool just fine so I don't know. I will try and post a picture of it.

The clutch kits from Exedy, among other brands, often include two different bearings.
The large sealed bearing often included is not the correct one
(edit) looks like this one but a little thinner
the correct one looks like this
(sorry for the stock photos, I don't have any laying around work)
so you can
a. fight the company you bought the clutch kit from saying they didn't include all of the pieces,
wait weeks for them to replace it..
or
b. grab one from your local parts store for 20 bucks they usually can have it overnight
or do both?

Ok yeah that's exactly my problem. I knew I needed that thin looking pilot bearing. The company didn't believe me and wanted me to send them pictures of what my pilot bearing looked like. So instead of dealing with them I would rather just track down the right bearing. I just hope the clutch and throw out bearing are correct. Thanks for your help though.

The throw out bearing is easily identifiable. Make sure it has those Tangs that you bend over your clutch fork. If they're there you're good.
If the throw out bearing is correct I'd be willing to bet your clutch is. Never know if someone pilfered the bearing, or lost it, or what not, really depends on who you purchased them from.
