Ridiculous insurance.

I called state farm today and i thought you all would like to hear how bad insurance rates in new jersey are these days.

88 GXL -- $890 -- 6 months
88 GTU -- $930 -- 6 months

I was calling to get rates because i'm slowly tryign to get the nasty rumors out of my parents heads that rx-7s are dangerous sports cars. That are very expensive. Its also sorta ironic that the car i'm driving now, has a higher insurance rate then that of the rx-7. 88 vw cabrio. The car is a hand me down. In the process of selling it. Interested talk to me.

Wow, those figures are absolutely ridiculous. My 7 is only an additional $50 a month. It and my wife's car ('00 Hyundai Elantra) add up to $120 a month together for full coverage.

Ya NJ must suck for insurance. I worked for Progressive, and they won't even write policies in NJ because of the laws there its not cost-effective. NJ and one other state they don't do...I think Delaware.

i'm so jealous when i hear of other peoples rates. Not to mention i'm not gettng full coverage. Also it is quite possible to find an rx-7 for $3k. So basically in 1.5 yrs i have basically bought another one with the price of insurance.
NJ=Rat Hole

I had Progressive for a while but then they decided to go to only 6 month coverages and raise their prices at the same time. I thought CA was the worst place for insurance, but I guess NJ has us beat.

Ya alot of people didn't like the 6 month policies. They tend to be expensive unless you have a perfect record. I got a quote and they were 2x the price as my Allstate premium. But they do have the best claims service available.

Show your parents how much you save by going with a 2Gen instead of a 3Gen, hehehe.

The 2Gen is not dangerous. Try to find an old Consumer Reports crash test from the late 80's, and you will see that it is very safe for its class.

Each of my RX-7's is $227.83 / 6months for basic coverage. You need to move to Florida, improve your driving record, and get old like me.

Get used to it, no escape from taxes, insurance, and death!

Its called NOFAULT. You need to VOTE. Eliminate the politicians that support businesses over people. I support mandatory insurance but NOFAULT is a joke.
I had to insure my 'Vert as a weekend driver. Glad I have a beater(wonder if it still runs) RX7s are surcharged for being a sports car. Also, I get charged for having a Vert(more $$ to fix, more likely to be broken into).
For the rest: tickets, accidents, age group, sex, area, car type, credit rating, coverage amount......will affect your policy. Don't speed, don't crash, don't skip bill payments, don't live in cities or heavily populated areas.
Insurance companies need to make a profit. With all the bogus pain/suffering/accident/estimate claims, everyones insurance will be higher.
They have full time staticians, mathematicians, and actuaries who set the rates for all cars. We do NOT need gov't intervention with insurance rates. Why should I(safe driver/no tickets) be assessed the same rate as an unsafe speeder who likes to crash?

And, you are not insuring your car! You are insuring what you can do(damage/destroy/loose) with that car. So, don't compare insurance cost to vehicle cost. Cripple/kill someone and you will understand. Or better yet, smash into one of the $50,000+ luxury imports and see if your 25/50 or 10/20 policy will cover it. You will understand only after having someone sues the $hit out of your a$$ for damages.

it's not even that big of a difference to get higher limits tho... in cali, the mandatory liability is 15/30... i rated myself at 15/30 and at 200/250, and it was a difference in like 50 bucks a year... not too much of a difference...

btw, liab & uim, i'm at $50/mo... 19 yrs old, clean record, good driver, persistency discount and stuff and stuff... i was like 50/mo? not bad!

Get a daily driver, then put the RX on a "Low Mileage" rate.

My Premiums:
1990 Subaru Legacy = $240 a year, full converage, Primary car
1989 GTUs = $230 a year
1986 Base = $215 a year
Total = $685 a year or $57 bucks a month

the only thing is I can only put 6,000 miles a year on each RX. Hasn't been a problem yet.

hmmm... I do not own a car as of now but I've been quoted at around $120 a month for just liability on a 1990 RX-7 (forget which model i told them)... thats with good student discount, car in my dad's name (perfect driving record i believe)... altogether then we'd have three cars through state farm.

I'm 16, have had my license for four months and live near Vancouver, WA.

Also, I just got this 'drive safe' program packet from state farm...they say if you do it (something like watch this tape, read this magazine, complete some journal, or whatever, do some supervised drives) they'll take off 15% off your car insurance. sounds good to me.
