update once again....
I have been wanting to do this for a few years now. And i finally dove into it. I tryed 6 different intercooler set-ups on my last FC to find out what worked best. But that had a much larger turbo. I belive with the stock turbo, the stock intercooler is best. But needs some help to be at its best. Thats when i added the water/meth, wich is great. But the design of the stock intercooler bothered me some. the entry is great. but the exit is horrible. so i did this.... (welds are kinda sloppy, i was having a hard time stablizing the arc. Found out after my TIG torch had some major problems. time to upgrade!) http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...tercooler4.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...tercooler3.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...tercooler6.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...tercooler5.jpg |
|
Also, im still injecting the same amount of water meth. the 250cc in the same position. but i moved the 180cc to a different location. I didnt snap a shot. But its located on the stock plastic pipe that is in between the turbo and stock intercooler. the 1" nipple that normally had the air hose to the BAC. i capped it off with a large vacuum plug and put the injector in it. this way its injecting directly down towards the air stream very early on. I believe it will work much better here. I'll find out for sure though later on when i do some "testing"....

what engine is that leaning up against?

Nice project.

just did some "testing"... The intercooler made a HUGE difference. Throttle responce difference was VERY noticable. boost climbed much quicker. The entire powerband felt much better. I will be hitting a dyno at the end of this month to see what she makes. Im hoping for 240-250.
|
few more pics i had for the intercooler and elbow...

Awsome work!
I've really been goin back and forth over how to upgrade: stock IC w/ injection vs larger more efficient IC (front mont/v mount). Since I personally lack welding skill and would rather not have to worried about yet another fluid level to monitor I'll be coming up w/ something for an Evo VIII IC. But this thread is an inspiration. |
The drop off is due to boost dropping off in the upper RPM and causing a break up due to over fueling and water meth mix. Not sure of the AFR or EGT's. Didnt have anything hooked up. I will be going back with a upgraded internal wastegate and maybe an safc to try for 250whp.
Minimal things done... Stock turbo Stock motor (never opened, unknown milage) Stock ECU (chipped by pan-speed, No idea what has been changed???) Stock top mount intercooler (modified by me) Home made intake, 2.5" Home made 3 inch exhaust/DP Port and polished manifolds and TB by me 1st run: 3rd gear with water/meth 2nd run: 4th gear with water/meth 3rd run: 3rd gear no water meth http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k.../stockdyno.jpg |
and becuase im an attention whore today!

sick car there was a small shop in alhambra that had a real infini chillin there waiting on a new engine RHD and everything i want one now
|
More updates... Because i have no life.
I finally got an alignment done on the car. I knew it was bad just by the way the car drove, and yes... it was extremely bad. So after the alignment, I decided the rear wheels had to much camber for my liking. So as usual, i made my own camber bar. Made from 6061 solid aluminum tapped with overly strong chromolly 3/4" end links. The bushing i turned on a lathe and are a PERFECT fitment. Im proud of it... Does the job quite well also. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...D/P4080050.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...D/P4080047.jpg My bar Vs. the stock one. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...mcamberbar.jpg Installed. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...D/P4090051.jpg |
Also made a harness bar. Its bolted to the stock location the seat belts would be bolted to. And the harness is also bolted to stock seat blet locations down below. Im thinking of getting the seats cut for the harness to go through like normal race seats... I dont wanna get aftermarket seats. I really like the one piece factory seats.
http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...D/P4090059.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...D/P4090068.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...D/P4090061.jpg |
Interesting.... I can't stand those seats, but that harness bar seems pretty damed cool! any plans to make more?
Really though, at least consider some T2 seats, those things are not very supportive and have weak bolsters....and ....they're ugly  Awesome car though man, keep us updated |
i have about the same mono camber adjuster... seems to make one side sit lower then the other...
i wanna try the two little ones, cant remember for the life of me where i saw them on here tho.. |
clean car, but this is stupid.
here in canada, where importing rhd fc's is legal, its a joke. It just means you couldnt afford to get a real LHD one. also, you do realize how annoying it will be to drive on the street. I'm sure it gets you a lot of attention in florida cause of old ppl and south beach and whatever other stupidity is cool down there, props for having a nice car, but srsly, whats the point of this swap other then being different? also, i didnt read the thread, but judging from the seats, its an NA chassis. Why didnt you invest your money and time into doing a t2 swap? And if it is a turbo, now you just made working on the car a bitch and effed up its balace even worse by putting a turbo, and the driver, and the steering components all on one side. sorry for the rant, I really do like your car (minus the rhd thingy), i am just sick of seeing rhd imports everywhere here. |
Okay so I just went through the read.
I really like the car! I still hate the rhd though. Awesome intercooler though. |

this is clearly a mod to make maintenance easier by making spark plugs easier to access.

....guess they never had that problem in Japan....

The deciding factor for me came down to a few things when i looked into doing this. But what sealed the deal was the cost. When i got the 90 GTU chassis it had no motor, tranny, wiring, radiator, ect. ect. So I started making a list of what i needed to get this car going. Added everything up to see what the cost would be. Then compared it to buying a front clip, wich comes with everything I would already need. Doing the RHD swap actually saved me a lot of money.
And truth be told, I am really against the whole JDM thing. I didnt do the RHD swap to be JDM. Besides the cost factor, I wanted to test myself and broaden my fabricationg and build skills. How many people have done swaps like this, and fabricated as many one-off parts as this car? yes theres a few, but not many. Especially not ones that drive on the road 7 days a week. This is my only running car. I drive it to school, work, the store, ect... Also, im infatuated with delivering mail. Contact me on Super Speedy-Rotary mail delivery! lol... |

looks good as hell man. were did you get the mazsport lip from?
|
Its not a Mazsport lip. Its a lip made by rob xx7. search his name and you'll find his thread.
|
oh thanks. mazsport used to make/sell lips that looked just like that

I prefer these one piece seats to the TII ones. These are lighter and i dislike the adjustable headrest on the TII seats.
Love all the custom work btw, plans for the sunroof? |
Just did the entire read. Great stuff. Took me back to last winter when I did a rhd swap on an S14. However I took the route of cutting the entire firewall out and using factory weld seams to make it appear factory.
I agree 100% that when it comes to the swap mounting the steering column/pedal brakets is the hardest part because you really have no "landmarks" to go off of. The crossmember is cake and in my case the firewall was just lining up spot welds. (I didnt change the wiper arms either) Question though: what did you do about your rear chassis harness? For my swap I just bought a JSpec rear harness and plugged it in. Did you twist, extent and splice the USspec harness or buy a complete Jspec? either way it looks awesome man, arent the little surprises awesome when you first unwrap the clip? *may still have pics of my firewall work if your interested* |

Adjustable headrests  which edition was that? Plus you'll be making plenty of power, the 2-3 lbs difference wont kill you for some seats that actually have some side bolsters
Love all the custom work btw, plans for the sunroof? What im doing is cutting out all excess metal and even cutting out all the metal from the front of the sun roof to the windshield. There was still some rust and was dented up enough for me to be annoyed by it constantly. So i went to the junk yard and had them cut out a section of the roof so i can replace it. im using Lexan now instead of the crap plexi-acrylic shit that warps in the heat and cracks when trying to screw it in. So after i replace all the metal, ill be shaping the lexan and using about 50+ rivits to secure it in for good. The picture in my head looks pretty sweet. Hope fully it comes out that way.

Wasnt to hard. Some of the wire colors matched up. But theres a whole lot that didnt... |
Here are those pics, I dont have ones after we cleaned up the metal prior to welding it, but it was basically a mix of spot welds and lap welds.

/\ nice job!. Ya I did the same with my rear harness. I had an s4 shell so most colors didnt match up with the jdm harness
|
More updates...
I made my own motor mounts. They are made from a very strong plastic type material. I also made a steel sleeve for the bolts to go through. Im happy with the overall outcome of them. And will be much better than my highly worn out stock mounts. I also added tranny mounts, but i didnt get to take any pics... http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...tormountsc.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...otormounts.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...tormountsb.jpg |
More updates coming soon... just havnt taken any pics of the new stuff.
|
I added a rear strut bar. I also, FINALLY GOT REAL COILOVERS to match the front!!! about damn time!
http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...arstrutbar.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...rstrutbarb.jpg |
Then cause i was REALLY bored one day, I broke down the rear taillights and did the "modernizing" to them. Basically i removed the honey comb crap behind the lens. And then i sprayed it with translucent black paint for a nice and mean look... Im digging it.

yes, its true. Even more custom fab work to the car...
After looking at the stock UIM, I really dislike the design. Air go's in and hit a flat wall for the primary runners. And there are hard abrupt corners everywhere in the primary and secondary areas. So i cut it open, sandblasted everything, and ground out most of the bumps, corners, and round edges. I then added JB Weld to help smooth the air flow. Before i go ahead and weld it back up, anyone have any good ideas to further improve upon this "experiment". Here's what I came up with: *These pics are before the sanding, polishing, and finishing. Stock: http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...manistock2.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...Imanistock.jpg |
|
And welded back up like nothing ever happened. I will not be getting back on a dyno until i do a few more things to the car. So i will not know the real advantages of this. But im sure it will compliment the rest of the work i have been doing just fine...

So I hated the shift knob that was in my car. It was steel, so it burns my hand in the hot Florida sun. Which in turn makes my hand sweat and easy to slip off it in a quick shift. And wasn't really all that comfortable... So, I made my own. I came up with what I call, The KTEC death knob...lol
http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...deathknob2.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...Cdeathknob.jpg http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...deathknob3.jpg |
^ummm lol
|
a little late but amazing job!!!! i wish i had the skills to do all that.
|
what material is that knob made out of?
|
Billet aluminum.
I made 2 others that are more practical. They sit lower, are much shorter and have no spike. I just like having this one for my daily driving. |
careful not to impale your hand!! ha
|
Can't wait to see the results with that manifold!
Doesn't aluminum get hot as well? |
