Haha cut/weld isnt making it stronger...U'll need extra support. I mean think about it,,,,It'll never be the same as an untampered frame.

it's just not something you see everyday.
There are plenty of photos of RHD interiors on the internet. You could save yourself a lot of trouble just by looking at them.

Really, what's the point? There are absolutely no advantages to doing this, it's purely an expensive novelty. I can't understand why anyone would actually be impressed by it.

It can also makes driving a bit more dangerous, because it's much harder to see oncoming traffic when you're following other cars. I've seen people driving LHD cars over here, and they're most of the way across the centerline before they see the car coming straight at them...

this is one of those things where if you have to ask about it then you aren't ready to do or don't have the money to pay for it.

Do the RHD conversion. It would be unique and very appealing.

I want 2 cars, one with the RHD conversion, and one without. That way I can alternate every day which car I drive, b/c I'm tired of just having my left arm tan

This is the bit I don't understand. Why is it appealing. Why do you think RHD is better than LHD?

It's appealing to me because I don't see RHD cars everyday on the street. You don't have to agree with me, also I Never said RHD is Better than LHD.

I dont care what you people think, i dont drive my car for you people, i drive it for me, if you have a problem with it, then dont talk to me, but if you can help me with my questions, then by all means, any help is appreciated.

It was sort of answered for you earlier. It will be very expensive because you're talking about swapping the firewall. That means pulling just about everything out of the car (interior and engine bay) just to get to the firewall, then getting a professional to do the actual swap (this is not a job for an amateur), then repaint it. Then you have to swap in a whole new steering system, wiring loom, brake system and the complete dashboard, and try to piece it all together so everything actually works properly.

After all the time, effort and money your car will not look or go any better than it did before, and it will only be "different" to those who for some reason think RHD is interesting. It won't even be worth any more, and in fact may be harder to sell.

I'm not trying to be an ******* either, just to point out that you could build yourself and very fast and desirable car for similar investment. It just doesn't seem to make much sense. If you absolutely have to have a RHD car, consider importing one complete. Much easier and probably much cheaper.

Your'e right. You can find a complete RHD Turbo II for around $6k here in So.Cal from a importer. Shipping to other states might be around a $750 on top of that, I'm guessing.

steering column + rack + pedal assembly + ECU assembly (don't need ecu, probably) + dash + some time on your hands. Now that I think of it.. might need to do some work to the wiring harness.. or hide the ECU behind the pedals, somehow.

if I got a job as a mailman, I'd seriously consider converting a TII/finding a RHD one.. it sure beats using a subaru!

Do you know the names of some of the importers and websites or phone numbers or e mail or whatever to get in touch with them?

I guess that I am probably also in the minority in that I like the RHD setup.

Back in the early 90s I had two 1st Gen 7s, an 80 LS and a 78 (at least that is what it was titled as) RX-7 RHD. I picked up the RHD for $600 with a broken passenger side (oops, Left side window) and butchered engine wiring harness.

The car definitely got the looks, even it was a work in progress. The things that I noticed the most were that the engine wiring harness was substantially longer, the steering column was different and could not simply be "flipped", and the brake booster/master cylinder would require cutting the firewall. Otherwise, the other items were relatively straight forward; such as, the dashboard and other interior items. However, this might be simplified.

It is certainly a doable job, but will definitely take some work. I for one would like to know if there are any sources for the parts and know-how to do the conversion.

I am too in the process of doing a rhd convertion. I just ordered the front clip not that long ago and im waiting for it to arrive. My car was sitting for a while w/o an engine so it sitting some more while I do the convertion is not a problem since I have another car. For those planning on doin it, its not easy, expect to do mad labor. On the fc atleast the mounting holes are mirrored to the right side. It has the hole for the steering column molded out but not cut so its alot easier to place things. But the a/c and other things are more complicated. In order to traspass the brake booster the brake lines have to be extended(steel lines). The wiring loom is another problem and placing the ecu yet another one. But I guarantee you that the outcome will be extremely satisfying(for some) and you'll be happy you did it. automatically you turn 10x more heads than just blowing off or something. Its gratifying when youre about to race someone and you lower your window and see the astonished expression on their face. But if any of you need some help doing this let me know. I will post up pictures as im gowing through the conversion.

NZconvertible beat me to the punch... his post is what I was thinking the while time reading this thread.
Havent you ever found yourself tilting your head as far to the left as you can to see traffic coming at you?? Could you IMAGINE trying to pass somebody while driving on the right of the car?? You couldn't see oncoming traffic untill it was part of you!!

What a ridiculous project for that end.
You know what you don't see to often?? Foot pedal steering.. like rudder pedals.... with hand operated throttle. You never see those around, so I'm doing it!! Shouldn't take much. LOL

And to the above post. I get what your saying about being differnt, and seeing the looks on people faces.. sometimes it's satisfying. But are you going to spend $1000's of dollars for basically so other people will like you? LOL

Ok no im not doing it for other people, and im not spending $1000's either. I paid for a front clip because of the engine. But since im getting the entire clip I might as well use everything else in it. so basically its all labor that im willing to do. I also see the problem with the left side passing... but that can be taken care of easily..by not doing it. Theres not many 2 lane roads here in miami so I guess it wouldnt be such a problem.. those are things that you get used to once you start driving on the right. Like I said its something that I like and would love to have.. so to each its own.

I'm pretty sure u can do it without cutting and welding the frame, by drilling the firewall... i talked to a shop here in orlando and they said it would be 1500 to do the whole conversion

Wow I think this forum has gotten more friendly over the years lol.

I always have had it on my mind of converting to rhd. Only thing that makes me not want to do it is the fact that the steering shaft/turbo/exhaust/brake master/clutch master/emission harness entry are all cluster fucked into a super-oven area. And there is less foot space on the right side of the car.

Its something different and would be a fun, and relatively cheap thing to do(I like to tinker with stupid **** that takes forever to do...lol)
