Revving over 7000 on S5 bad?

I've got a 91 N/A with 115k miles, and have been told to keep the revs well below redline, no higher than 7000, because an older engine could destroy itself. Does this sound right? I have a feeling a lot of s5's out there have as many miles and visit the redline every day....

If it's in good shape don't see any problem. That's what they're made for.

Thanks, it sounded bogus but I didn't want a rotor flying out and slicing my legs off.

as long as the oil inj are working, they should be lubricating the apex seals, and it shouldnt be any problem. 160k on my engine, and it hits redline at least every week...ive got the full racing beat exhaust, so i have to be super careful in my area...cops dont exactly appreciate a full racing exhaust blowing by at 8000 rpms.

search function works great for the easy questions.

Check out the RB site for pricing on exhaust components.

Thats because you have a S4 with a 7k rpm redline.
S5 n/a's have a 8k redline. Don't blow up your engine.

Just wondering your reasoning for revving under load?

S4: Redline is 7000 RPM, fuel cut is 8000 RPM.

S5: Redline is 8000 RPM, fuel cut is 9000 RPM.

The reason for the difference is that the S5 has lighter rotors & some other stuff that allows it to spin faster & make power up there. A stock engine is choked off by redline anyway - the stock intake & exhaust just can't flow enough to make power that high. At least for S4s, 6500 RPM is usually a good shift point for a more or less unmodded car.

But what would be the point if its not making any power at that rpm?

i think i am a *****, ive had my s5 turbo for 5 months now and it has never seen over 6.5 k rpm. I guess the detonating in the engine doesnt help my cautiousness. I wouldnt mind hearing that redline buzzor tho

how high can an s4 rev before it explodes, my throttle stuck about a month ago and it went to about 10500rpm before i turned the key. I have s5 guages and it revved untill the guage wouldnt read and further. started it back up and ran perfectly...

edit: anyone know how to install a rev limiter?
