Rev's to 4k, and is slow to get there...

This is dufourmike, I'm just using defprun's computer!

This is a problem i've had with my 87 n/a gx as of about a week ago. Me and a friend jacked the car up, and listen to the sounds from the undercarage to pinpoint the cause of this. We found that the right side aux port opener? made a ticking noise while the left one was quiet. After removing clamps that held on a cheap universal type cat the allowed my car to pass smog a while ago, and removing the cat, we found the car to rev WAY better. We drove it around the block with only the two pre-cats hooked up to see if the clogged cat was the problem. Power has increased dramaticly, but the problem is it is still slow to accelerate, and makes alot of torque, but no hp. it won't rev above 4k, and also, the exuast is WAY too quiet for only having these 2 small cats, and one was gutted on a previous occasion. Could this 2nd pre cat be clogged, or maybe this goes as high as the manifold? Could the aux. port not be opening, thereby not allowing the flow of air needed to power such revs?
Any help would be greatly apprecciated.

(again, no defprun)

Are you sure that is what the problem is? Is there anything else that could be the culprit.
