I finally put in my replacement tranny and when i test drove it that night I noticed the reverse lights came when i pressed the gas in 5th gear.
It works fine when i back up in reg. reverse. but flashes on/off when I drive it normally in 5th.

any of this ever happened to any of you guys?

 

Is their anything mechanically wrong with it?

 

LOL thats a weird problem. It can either be mechanical or electrical. You can check the wiring for your reverse light circuit for any shorts, thats if you're sure that they ONLY come on when you're in 5th and not when you're just driving. If its only in fifth I would imagine that its something out of wack in the transmission.

 

Something similar to this happened to me. Reverse lights on in 5th. Got pulled over, and ended up getting the car impounded (for a different reason). When I got it back, turns out I wired the 5th gear switch on the tranny to the back up lights. Double check your wiring.

 

On the transmission there should be two electrical connections that look similar if not identical. Change them around, they are reversed.
