Common to have the reverse light switch fail on the tranny on FC's, FD's and NA's (miatas). I'd check that first.

You may wish to use the search function found in the upper right hand corner of this page as this subject has been covered quite a few times.

I just dropped my tranny last week. Found the in-gear/neutral, AND the 5th/Reverse switches were both LOOSE!! WTF?!?

Get a haynes manual. Look to see which wire is supposed to be getting 12 volts. Test to see if 12 volts is getting to the switch. If there is 12 volts then its probly the switch. If not then find a 12 volt source and run a wire to the switch. Thats what I had to do.
