Reverse + Clutch = Clunk & Die

Reverse + Clutch = Clunk & Die
So when I put my car into reverse and engage my clutch fully I hear an odd clunking noise come from the engine bay area and my engine dies.
I know for a fact that my clutch is slipping like a SOB and I'm gonna have to change it soon, but what I wanna know is if this clunking could be my transmission?
