Please don't rev the **** out of your rotaries, there's no need to go way beyond the redline. I'm not going to go into the whole story, but the engine doesn't get sufficient lubrication.

The reason MSD boxes and such make more power up high is because there CDI. MAzda found 8 PS in its racing PP 13B by switching from HEI to CDI (from SAE paper). I think it has to do with the rise up time or soemthing. Air gap sparkplugs insted of our semi surface dischage plugs can help it.
Speaking of high rpms, has anyone figure out how to get rid of the 7800 rpm rev limit? My engine is capable of ~9k now,.. but when i hit 7800 in the old motor it wa sliek a brick wall.... I'll have to try it again after breakin.

they already have diesel and natural gas etc rotaries... some company makes them, I think they are 4 rotor also. They call them stratafied omniverous charge rotaries or something like that.
hey i own an 87 t2...shifting from 1st to second at about 6.5k rpm it backfires...but it does shoot out flames really nice blue ones i might add. hehehe its sad to see other cars with those crumby backfire systems when a stock rotary turbo engine can do it all on its own.

Will the stock ECU still trigger fuel injector pulses if it can't pull a signal form the CAS? Basicaly, thinking out of box to run a dizzy and keep the stock ECU for fuel injection. This would bypass an ECU ignition-based rev limit. Wouldn't do crack for a rear-rotor fuel cut rev limit though...
