Rev limiter on Turbo II??

My boyfriend just bought an 87 Turbo II - he's a converted Honda man and new to the rotary engine. Though redline is at 7, at about 6700 RPM an alarm goes off and he loses power. I've been searching the net for info, does anyone have any ideas? Go ahead and talk technical, I'll just print off your ideas and pass them over! He's dying to race this car but wants the full power!
Thanks!!

That is just a buzzer to warn you that your coming to the redline and should shift to the next highest gear. At 6700 rpm you should not begin to lose power. I took the fuel cut of mine (same motor, earlier RX-7) and shift at 7500 rpm. Does he know a reputable rotary mechanic? Glad to hear he converted to rotary power instead of that honda garbage!

Thanks! He said that the buzzer sounds, and right at that moment the power cuts off and he can't even get to 7000RPM. He doesn't know if it's the fuel cutting off or it's something else. How did you take the fuel cut off out?

I think it's just a solenoid but can't remember where it is. Take it by the shop like I said and they take it right off. don't need it. You guys should go to St. Thomas dragway next weekend and watch the races. If you need info direction, let me know

maybe hes hitting fuel cut due to factory excessive boost level cutoff?? Just an idea, if he has anything like downpipe, etc, he should get an fcd.

I've never heard a buzzer, but my car used to cut out at 6800. I put a new TPS and all is well. Ive taken it to 8000 and never heard a buzzer. So I think it may be a combination. Oh yeah if its the TPS bid on mine its on ebay now for like 10 bucks. It works good and it is for a 86-88

Try the ATF trick...

...Mine used to loose a bit of power from 5500 - redline, until I did the ATF trick. I think the carbon deposits were giving it a hard time @ high rpms. It buries the redline now... do a search for it...

My NA does the same. It varies tho, sometimes it cuts not at 6k sometimes not at all. I think i've noticed a pattern where if the cor is warmed up well the it doesnt cut out (like after 8-9 redline runs)

I had a 87 T2 and now a 88 T2 and havn't had that problem, Does he have mods? I also think it could be fuel cut off (If he does) Good luck!

I've noticed something like this, near the sound off on the shift alarm, it seems like the boost cuts off. Could be fuel? Should it make boost all the way to redline? How could I tell if I did hit a fuel cut? Newish 91 TII owner, 83 I have had for 6 years now, drove it like I stole it half the time
